Hi - car has been in the garage for two weeks now, they had already expressed concern about their search for the part a week ago, they just rang me an hour ago and said they deffo cannot get this part - needless to say if I can't get this part the car will probably have to be broken and I cannot allow that!

here is the part. Halfords, Motor World, and our local Fiat dealer all say the part has been discontinued ffs

the thermostat available on ebay for these cars is the same as the part inside this bizarre housing, but it cannot be removed from the housing so the whole unit pictured needs replacing. I am relying on you great guys to point me in the right direction! Thanks for looking!

in addition I am currently talking to Ricambio but it looks like the part will need to be ordered from Italy and is going to be a bit expensive , any other help would tillbe appreciated, need to make up my mind in next 24 hours really

I am sure you can still get these. I would try Desira Motors service department in Diss Norfolk - sorry don't have number with me - They have been able to get parts for my Sedici and if its available via the Fiat network they will know.

If you get really stuck then second hand may be an option - try the chap who always advertises spares on e/bay. Gary is well known to me - his prices are reasonable and he may be able to help - he had 6 Sedices when i last visited him!!

He is away on hols this week.

if I come up with any more ideas I will post them - the car is to good to break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah yes, I just bought one came in last week, one of the last ones in the world I believe. Are you sure you cant get the element out, squash it down on the spring a bit and turn it, darn sure it will come out - I took the front off one of mine to modify, but sure I could have done it easier but removingthe element. Theres a few different pipe on the stat for the 5 door but it basically the same casting as the 3. You might need to get jiggy with an m14x1.5 tap to fit the additional bits. Certainly now worth scrapping the car over - for sure, try and take the element out first. It may or may not help buts heres mine on GC's site - http://www.guy-croft.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1413

Andy Foresdyke in Desira Diss, is the best parts man in the country. If he cant get no one can (unless someoen have it stock).

theres another one option...
buy a thermostat for fiat coupe 16v... only one think is there diferent... they dont have a sensor for egr valve... /i removed this anyway/
thats the sensor with 2 pipes on...
it cost me with gasket and new coolant temp sensor about 75pounds...

i actually think i've got one lying about for my mk1 that i broke, seeing as i have a mk2 its useless if i can find it i'll let you know

Cheers guys - Ricambio haven't got back to me, unfortunately

Aww, my poor, poor car - I'm not posting for the Hell of it, I just never realised I did not finish the story. Thought I would finalise this one.

Ricambio got back to me about 3 weeks after I rung them. They managed to get me my thermostat from Turin, total cost including delivery to me was about £170. Then I had it fitted. I think our garage took pity on me with the labour because the Tipo had been parked under a tree full of pigeons for so long the paintwork on the bonnet had been damaged. They had the car for two months!! :(

I don't know if he was just showing off, but the guy who sorted this out for me said that the parts centre in Turin (which I assume was Fiat's own?) he had obtained this thermostat from only had three left on the shelf, and after my sale there was only the two, possibly the only two left in the world. This thing looked like an artificial heart, and our mechanics said they had had never seen anything like it, not even on a Lancia - God help anyone else who needs one :s
