Hello, I got a car that has got what i consider to be rust problems... just next to the front jacking point it's become so bad that the jack actually went through the metal... or what was left of it.

there seems to be heavy corrosion around the sill join... to the extent that it has bent in the past when someone jacked the car up using the standard jack.

So is a car salvageable within economic reason at this point?

Oh dont say its the red one

yes the red one... someone had their fiat gogles on when they said that there was very little rust on the car... that said there's still enough strength on the seam to raise the car on the jack... but the underpan is definately suffering.

until i get it to a place where i can have a really good poke at it with grinder and screwdriver... it's anyones guess.

The rest of the car seems solid enough though... but it's crying out to be sand blasted underneath.

Not the 1.4 Tipo you just bought Tony? With a full years mot?

lets just say I have been very tempted to go and ask whoever passed that cars MOT cert some pretty serious questions... so far i've have to replace a tyre that was bald on one edge. the wheels don't know what balancing is... the pedals stuck like crazy until i WD40'd them to hell. the exhaust was a piece of bodge artwork.

but it's working and it's noisy in the arse department but i bought a new pipe for 34.00 so when that arrives it's just need the wheels balancing for it to be quite civilized.

it makes sense to get it done.

I've told you about using language like this on the Italian car forum before Steven...

the car does 25 miles to the gallon on a good day... nothing about getting it back on the road really makes sense. it's going to cost an armand a leg in red t-cut alone

I'm not sure one of those is a better suggestion :) my brother had a mk2 ... loved rust.

no, i'll spend the money but the timeline is going to be long.
