about 5 years back the red tub decided to burn out the cable for the TDC sensor on its exhaust...thereby stopping the engine, but not killing the stone age ecu dead in its tracks, fast forward to friday last week.....

drove up to peterborogh to collect another shedload of parts from an ebayer (more to follow when i can be arsed to photo them, includes a full set of glass, scorpion exhaust, wiper motor, all lights, and fuel pump bracket:D), made good time there and back, car was pulling smooth and strong, then about 3 miles short of home, cough...burp...splutter...coast into the verge.....****:bang::bang::bang::bang:

nothing obvious, and i didnt think at the time to check the cable....after all this bucket was so wrong in so many places gawd knows what it could be...anyway, after much swearing...RAC man had a go, he failed too, and towed me home.....after much contemplation, and mrs jai saying she will burn the "money pit", i thought..."i wonder if that sensor is ok...." cue finding the cable melted to the side of the exhaust and an order for a new one, which like red will be firming cable tied out of the way....i hate fiat wiring

Good that you got home OK (did you ride in the car as it was towed?)

The Uno Turbo engine bay wiring is very haphazard! Highlights for me include the thin wire to the back of the alternator that passes up and through the fuel pipes, and the little jumble of wires at the front of the engine for the oil pressure etc. And, as you say, critical engine sensors have plugs that just float around somewhere near the gearbox and somewhere near the alternator...

I remember reading a General Used Car Buyers Advice guide once, and it said to "deduct $10 for each cable tie found under the bonnet". It was supposed to be indicative of bodged wiring. Well I reckon with an Uno, the more cable ties, the better!
