OK. Gotta make a decision and am after some reassurance. Bear with me as I have only ever fitted £20 inclusive remoulds before (not on the HGT mind) so need some more advice before forking out some wedge.

I am after a good compromise between grip and durability. The above options are all in the same ball park on price but what are your experiences?

Tom is advocating the Yoko's and given that he is right more often than not I'm tempted to go for them. I also need to know if it's OK (or wise/safe) to run 205's on the front and 195's on the rear as the 205 Yoko's are actually cheaper than the 195's.

Shabash!

I'd run the same size all the way around.

I like the yokos as they suit my driving style, very nice breakaway and 10,000+ miles from them.

Wet performance is OK, certainly wet leaves really screw them up.

F1's I found a bit too grabby in the dry and squeel alot, good in the wet though.

Re: Re: Yoko A539 vs F1's vs P600/0?

i've had yoko's and they were very good. i've never had f1's, my life's tyre review so far:

Firestone - Crap grip and wear out quicker than i do!
Pirelli P2000 - grip better but life still poor.
Budget - grip a bit poor but life excellent!
KwikFit Own - pretty good on both
Yoko's - Better than quickfit and half the price for my old car
Vredestein - my favourite so far, good grip wet & dry, come with rain groves and good life so far. Plus £36 fitted for 14" 185/70

Re: Re: Re: Yoko A539 vs F1's vs P600/0?

I would recommend Nankang sports...before you all start...

I find they have brilliant grip in the dry...the only thing to watch in the HGT in very wet conditions is if you stick your foot down hard on a tight bend the front end likes to go slightly straight...:)

My old tyres also did this, but far worse than the Nankang's

...but i cant complain at £42 a tyre.

What about Toyo Proxy's?

without a doubt Pirrelli P7000's brilliant in the wet and amazing in the dry. and ive had them on for about 10,000 miles and still loads of rubber left

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Yoko A539 vs F1's vs P600/0?

Al, may I suggest you give my tyre guy a ring - the one who did the barch, the HGT and now the Punto, I cant beat the bugger on price and he loves the Italian cars.

I just did Conti Premium's all round on 195/50/VR15 for £211 all inc fit, balance, old tyres given back for resale (they are fairly new), valves and haulage into my workshop :) from him.

Steve (S Tec Tyres) 01926 612275 - tell him I told you to ring him for a price - he knows me very well.

You can come over on a Sat morn and have a coffee while he does them for you!

I've had P6000's on my cars - they are f**kin incredable tyres. But now i have 17's on they dont make them that big :(

Mr Al.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Yoko A539 vs F1's vs P600/0?

I have the Toyo Proxy's and really like them. I am on my second set after 2 sets of P6000's and I prefer them over the Pirellis.
Plus they are cheap, a full set of 4 fitted all in £160.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Yoko A539 vs F1's vs P600/0?

Thanks for the info guys. I can see a lot of talk about grip but nothing on durability. Really don't want a tyre that I'll have to change every 6,000 miles.

Nige, Cheers for the offer mate. If I still have nowt by next weekend I may take you up on that. Off to the 'Dam again this weekend and need to get this sorted as 1 tyre with 1.6mm and a space saver on the front is getting pretty hairy! Might swap one from the back for now.

I'll let you know.

Shabash!

Al, just sent you an email that may help you out. Enjoy Dam for one of the last times before you are banned from the 'shops - hope you read about that!!!

Yeah. Did see the new legislation coming in but there may be a delay of a couple of years.

Ho hum, looks like the OZ-Shop may not be viable after all.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Yoko A539 vs F1's vs P600/0?

The Proxy's are pretty poor on wear rate, I'd say 10K tops, the P6000's I got near enough 25K out of a set, but this is with swapping the fronts for the rears half way so that they all need changing at the same time.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Yoko A539 vs F1's vs P600/0?

uniroyal - rainsport

that is what i have on my car at the moment and i have to say i am impressed, in the wet they are awsome, grip the road perfect, i find it hard to wheel spin in the wet with them because of the grip, in the dry they arnt so great they are just average, but because i live in yorkshire it is more wet then it is dry they are good tyres :)

cheap as well
