Yup... driving home tonight.. approx 68mph, the cambelt says bye bye...

Not even gonna bother seeing what damage has been done, as at a guess all 20 valves are shot.

Not happy in one respect, but at least I can seek a new car now... but won't be FIAT this time round...

lol at your last comment :D

suppose i was quite lucky finding an engine with a new cambelt, new hg and all internals cleaned for £70 and paying a mate 'mates rates' for fitting :)

i was going to sell mine when it had blown too

Mike

She's been good to me for the last 6 years, so can't grumble at her... literally spoke to my mechanic yesterday about new cambelt as it was coming up for a replacement... ruddy typical...

Shame that chap, you oughtta be able to make £700 or so back from breaking it? Shame you're going away from fiat too :(

Good luck though!

Hi Mate

I'm sorry to hear about the cambelt, I've only been a Bravo driver for the last year, & all I've heard is watch the cam belt.
I changed the belt on my Bravo just in time it was double over the miles recommended, I was told it dropped off LOL

Anyway so I am wondering what is going to be happening to the rest of your car, do you have a donner card, can any bits be transplanted. I am sort of having to restore the HGT I brought & a few bits would be kooleo?
Anyway let me know what the situation is if your interested.

& once again sorry about your Bravo, what are you thinking of getting in replacement, also does your insurance pay out on something like this?

sorry to hear about ur unfortunate journey cut short by the rubber band.... as my dad always said... "one of the most important parts of an engine and they put a rubber band on it"...

may i suggest a chain driven engine next time?

What you thinking of next??

She'll be sold as a whole, as don't want to break her. Still got MOT till May 2011, and recent new exhaust (Sportex) and cat.

Keep an eye on eBay soon...lol.

Needing something a bit more economical this time... due to the extra miles I will be doing soon...but still need something of same physical size. None of these tiny cars that you can stick in your pocket.

Very tempted to go for either a Ford Focus, or something in the VW group..

147 or 155 i may be interested, what colour is it, and what is bodywork like,

Mark you will soon get very bored with a golf... I am!!

Kate loves the golf tho... it doesn't go wrong, everything always works & you can spend 4hrs driving and when you get out you don't feel like you've driven.

Plus all the electronic gizmos that keep you on the road mean it's very safe what ever the weather.... as I said to Oz when I went out in the HGT for the 1st time in the rain after the golf...

"the 1st puddle I went through the bravo tried to ram me into a tree...." in the golf it just sorts it all out and you just carry on.... how boring! :)

A Fiat Marea in a Bravo Shell..its good to be different ;)
H/B cables soon to be fitted, next on list..tensioner..

@ Ant - It's a 155 (T 1999) in Lichen Green.
Body work is good, couple of dents, but crack in rear bumper due to some idiot. Also a bit of lacquer peel on the bonnet.

@ Mike - Got a few contacts looking out for a Focus.. Aiming for a Mk2 1.8 zetec.

TBH, I'm really gonna miss the HGT. She has done me well over the last 5/6 years and never let me down.. Even gave Type R's a good run for their money !!

Slight change of direction again...

Possibly will be going back to Fiat now.

Going to see a Grande Punto 1.9 sporting tomorrow... 2006 with only 22k on the clocks... plus has all the toys and more than the HGT had.
