Hi guys/gals i came home from a lovely 2 week hols in portugal yesterday :) this morning i decided to start the car (to make sure i had no flat battery ect) she fired up sweetly first time ok lets take her for a spin i thought so i pressed the clutch (which had gotten a little stiff just before i went on hols) and the pedal stayed to the floor so i hooked my foot under the pedal to bring it back up then tried again......this time the pedal wouldnt go down ........ i can put the car into gear without it engaging i changed the slave cylinder abt 6 mths ago so i dont think it could be that .......are fiat brava/o common for clutch trouble????? any suggestions what the fault could be??? should i just bin the car??????
oh btw its a p reg fiat brava 1.6 16v
thx in advance guys
(starting new job wednesday so i need it sorted)

clutch

ive just spoken to a friend who thinks its the master cylinder that has seized are these easy enough to fix how much do master cylinders roughly cost ?? wheres the best place to get one

Search on googl for Shop4Parts. that's where i got mine should be around £30 plus p&p. Mine used to do it but after giving it a good run and allowing the car to warm up it sort of moved back into position by itself.

Ask someone to press or try to press the clutch pedal while you look if the slave cyl pushes the lever on the gearbox housing. If you cant see any movement from the cyl. then its gone again, if you can see it move, try pressing the lever by hand, if it wont budge, the trust bearing is probably shot.

clutch

thx ben i jus had a look at that site and i can get 1 for £55 inc postage ......will shop there if need be (its 50 quid cheaper that the quote i got from a local spares shop!!

cheers sven i didnt think to move the lever by hand im fairly sure it isnt the slave tho bcoz before the clutch stuck completely i would sometimes feel a grinding on the pedal which inclines me to think that its the master as for driving the car abt till it warms up ...... impossible the clutch pedal is up but its acting like its fully pressed down so although the pedal is up i can still change gears without the car moving ...... ( i havnt got the ballz to rev the engine hoping that vibration may loosen something coz if it snaps into gear im gonna be looking for an engine winch as well as a cylinder :p thx guys i will check the movment on the lever manually and will let u know the outcome thx again

sounds to me like the clutch release shaft has seized. this is the bit that the slave cylinder pushrod moves. Try a squirt of wd40 or simmilar. put tube or something over it and try and move it back and forward to release it.
