is it possible to fit xenons gas headlamps to 2002 stilo abarth and how much can anyone help please manythanks in advance

You mean up to factory fitted standards? The cost would be immense - although I am sure there is already a thread asking about this!

Or do you mean banging in some Xenon bulbs from Halfrauds?

no fitting upto factory standards

You could get a decent aftermarket set off ebay for a couple hundred probably. I am not a lawyer, and I will not be held responsible if the following is not true. But to the best I my knowledge, the UK MOT does NOT require any car to have washers nor self levelling. You can check the book yourself. Therefore cars with HID kits fitted pass the test. The police do not have any issues with this as they use the MOT requirements when stopping people. As far as I know the requirement is for factory fit HID’s only. Of course it’s vital to make sure that the lights are always clean and adjusted correctly.
The colour of the bulbs can be the only other issue, the bulbs are rated with a K rating, I would advise you to stick to between 4000k – 6000k.

I question the need for a resistor to fool the bulb failure, as I needed to replace the nearside dipped beam bulb the other day, and there was no warning on the dash.

However, some aftermarket systems flicker. But there is a fix for this that is easy, cheap and will annoy certain groups / people if I post it here.

As soon as I know, I 'll give you the make and model. As far as I know, is easy to be fitted. You have to replace the bulbs and make a hole on the headlight caps, where you put a rubber grommet (which is supplied with the set) in order to get the extra cables out, which cables go to the power supply units (one for each bulb). I have seen it fitted on a SEAT Ibiza ('98 model) where it works fine and the whole installation is neat.

I 'll take some fotos as well to show it to you fitted in my Stilo. Probably this will be done this week...

I worked in the advanced lighting development labs at Philips in Holland doing research on the the first Xenon system which was to be used by BMW in the 7 series. You can do a conversion, but unless the lenses are changed as well you won't get the full benefit of the upgrade. By just changing the bulbs you do get additional light intensity and a better light temperature, however you don't get the additional spread of light.

The systems that ask you to make an additional hole in the reflector aren't that easy to fit because unless you get it absolutely right you get the wrong focal length and the beam pattern is all over the place or non existent, which means they are not legal. They also have to be DOT approved systems as well.

If you are using a H4 system it has to be dual beam (main + dip) or it is illegal to fit them for road use.

That's an interesting point.

Presumably Xenon equipped Stilos have a completely different lamp assembly which is also going to be minus the foglamp :chin:

Do you have a money tree growing in your garden Nikos :D (y)

Can't wait for the outcome.
I am trying to figure out a money-tree but since now it only produces 0.01€ and 0,02€! :p lol

Probably. The sure thing is that you get A LOT more than replacing the original bulbs with those "Xenon type" or whatever, which just change the colour of the light (to brighter) and nothing more (I have those now on my Stilo). (n)

You DO NOT have to make a hole on the reflector (!!) but on the rear cap (the black one you open to replace the bulbs), in order to get the extra cables out of the headlight compartment.
