Technical X1/9 turbo

Technical X1/9 turbo

We did a bit more than just timing and duration to get the real power. Once we had a baseline map it was necessary to start playing some clever tricks like multiple pulses rather than one long one at the lower end in order to maintain driveability at low revs and off boost.

Once we had the sorted the injector sizes were increased and the map rebuilt to allow higher boost. It was a long process to get right, of small gains and incremental changes.

Doing the same for a road car would be even longer in order to maintain emissions requirements - the only saving grace is that X1/9s don't have to meet modern standards in the UK.
