G'day... 
Yeah, you do kind of expect that with a car that's at least 20 years old.
My FIAT's three years old so I don't spend much time working on it, yet.
I used to have an '88 Bertone X1/9 bought for big money in 2003 and we had a worthwhile relationship. Only low kms and tried not to drive in the rain. But still there were rust bubbles that grated on my nerves, so we parted a year ago, for two-thirds the price I paid. If I'd held on a long time, I would have possibly made money on the deal... but the rust bubbles were getting larger.
Most of the people on this forum are in the UK and drive newer FIATs, but it's always worth posting in the X1/9 section and seeing who you find. You can see from the number of threads (of all the sections) that X1/9 owners are in the minority here but then again, that means you are dealing with the keen enthusiasts only

Yeah as AlexGS says we do have X1/9 owners over here but not many our climate is nice to old Fiats.
