Just did this job on my 4 speed - the 5 speed is the same type of seal and install. Its' not too bad - once I removed the lollipop and slid the bellows off, I found an open end wrench that could act as a makeshift pickle fork and with that leveraged against a screwdriver was able to pry the old seal out.
Once the seal is out, run your fingernails over the shift shaft to feel for any nicks or marks that may have occurred in the past or present during the seal removal. I used a scotchbrite pad and polished out the imperfections making sure the area the seal would ride on was smooth to the touch.
Be careful not to booger up the seal surface when sliding the new seal over the shift rod. To get it to seat, I used a deep socket and light taps to get it centered and seated. Hope that helps.
