X reg Marea Weekender issues with audio unit

Recently purchased an X reg Weekender with 93k on the clock. I am having issues with the audio unit which is driving me nuts.
Clock is permanently flashing. pressing EXP button to change time no response. When you turn audio unit on the radio either tunes in last station for 20 minutes then goes walkabout through the scan. Fashing MSS scan on, IS scan off. picks up a station for abot 20 secs then off it goes again ; or it goes straight into scan mode. Pressing scan buttons has no effect. Will not change bands [to AM] presets don't appear to work, however if it locks on to a station long enough and you press a numbered button down for 6 secs it will remember station but will still go off on scan mode. Tape only works for about 10 minutes then unit reverts back to Radio and goes off in scan mode. I have instuctions for a Sony CD changer with the paperwork but haven't managed to locate it yet. Any ideas what is wrong???

had the same thing with my stereo i took it out and put an aftermarket one in instead
