Hi all, could really do with your help. I have had my Multi for a year now without a problem and I lent it to my brother. He in his stupidity has put about half a tank full of petrol in my diesel car, just before he brought it back. He would of driven about 2 miles with it in and the red light was on when put the petrol in. Does anyone know how to get the petrol out and what I may need to change and ultimatly damage may of been caused. :bang:

there are several threads where people have got away without any damage to the engine by draininggthe fuel and the fuel filter and replacing with the correct fuel some have even just topped up with diesel, but they had only put in a small amount of petrol in

Well, I have had a play around. First of all I thought I would be clever and syphon out the fuel - No joy there but got a really good head buzz and my wife wont go near me for love or money as I stink!!!!
So I had a little thought and then thought some more! I decided I would take the full filter off and see what happens. Not a lot!
But then I turned the ignition on and WAYHAY out came some diesel. The pump turns on when the ignitions on or course.... So here I am for an hour turning the ignition on and off to empty the tank and flatten the battery at the same time. I must point out at this point that I was not over a drain but had a willing helper holding a funnel under where the diesel was coming out and into a bucket or as it ended up 3 buckets.
I then filled up a new fuel filter with Diesel Power Plus injector cleaner and put the rest and another bottle in the tank with 2 cans of diesel that my mate had gone and got for me.
So I put the filter on and tighten everything up crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.
It coughed and spluttered and died, so I tried again and again it died, so I made a cup of tea, always good in this situation and thought I'll give it one more try. HAY PRESTO!!!! It works its alive.
I'm not sure if there will be any lasting side affects of what I have done, but what I do know is that the car is working and I only had to take 1 day off of work to get it sorted. Is there a God I don't know but there must be a gardian angel or something looking down on me today :worship: :worship: :worship:

Just to let every one know I have been driving around now for 3 months without any problems at all, so it looks like I got away with it this time. Phew! :D

I have to disagree with Stuart DemonD. IMO the best way round this is to drain the system as well as possible, fill up with diesel and crank the engine. Petrol and diesel are both mineral based liquids; any seals, fuel lines etc that will stand the normal operating pressure of a diesel injection system should not be too troubled over short term exposure to petrol. I wouldn't put neat injector cleaner in the fuel lines/fuel filter either, but the recommended dose in a full fuel tank is a good idea.
