Hi! My dad went out in my car earlier this week and called at the petrol station to fill my car up as a favor! Anyway, he started filling up with V-Power petrol and put £4.00's worth in, so not even 4 litres, then realised and filled the rest of the tank up with V-Power diesel to the brim!

Anyway, i want this fuel out because i know how bad petrol is for diesel engines!

Can anyone give me info on how to drain the fuel tank?? Dont want to take it to my dealer because i know what they're like abd if i have any future problems on the engine they'll put it straight down to that!

Any help would be great!

Cheers

4 litres wont hurt, I would just go about your daily business. Dont be too hard on you Dad either he was trying to help.

Before people jump down my throat this is directly quoted from the AA website.

"Petrol in Diesel
Do not turn on the ignition or start the car

If the car's still under warranty you should check with the franchised dealer regarding their advice and correct remedial action – running with even a small amount of petrol in the tank might invalidate the warranty while some manufacturers advise that seals and filters should be renewed even if the engine has not been run.

Generally a small amount of incorrect fuel should not damage the engine as long as you have not started the car and top up fully with diesel fuel.

If you've added more than 10% (5 litres in a 50 litre tank) petrol – Drain the tank and refill with diesel
If you've added less than 10% petrol (5 litres in a 50 litre tank) – Top up with diesel and run normally unless the manufacturer has advised otherwise"

However my dad did this in his jag though, ran it through...well as far as it could go before it bucked like a bronko and stopped (knob) and it cost £2500 (new fuel lines, pump, tank) the lot.

Id leave it, I assumed he has driven it home to you? If he has that means he has used fuel driving it back to you, so I drive it back to the fuel station and put more deisel in to dilute the mix even more

Well it was a long drive bak, thers only a quarter tank left so do you think if i fill up again there'll be any trace of petrol left?

go fill it up again and forget about it, if you have used so much it looks like it hasnt done any harm :)

I did this myself  Managed to after going from a petrol car to a diesel after a couple of fill ups. I put about 2 or 3 litres in, realised, and then brimmed it with diesel. Never had any issues and it still runs a dream.

Just fill it right up a couple more times and you'll be fine! For the next couple of tanks, don't go below say 1/4 full though as diesel is heavier than petrol and it will slowly become a greater level petrol the emptier you get, where petrol sits at the top.

I did the above with mine and many months later and it's still going like a trojan :D

Me too

It wouldn't be so bad though, but you then have to go to the person in the shop and tell them that they have to charge you for petrol on the go before too. Then the person behind laughs and says "you didn't wanna do that, did you?". All embarrassing lol.
