Hi

I run a 1.3 MultiJet Punto and I'm generally very pleased with it.

My wife's 12 year old Rover 200 TD is in terminal decay.

I was wondering about passing on the Punto to her and getting a Stilo JTD as it's got a lot more space.

Reviews seem a bit lukewarm at best, wondered what you thought?

Would you buy a 5 year old one?

If so anything to look out for so as not to buy a duff one?

A search through the forum will give you an idea of the weak points.
However, other than ensuring servicing has been done correctly and any recalls (especially front suspension) have been attended to I think it's a good secondhand buy.
Question is, which one you thinking of? 3 door, 5 door or the estate:confused:

Well weak points are the front springs, Electrics can be dodgy, Good battery is imperative. Buy one with FSH and as few owners as you can find.
Engine as you know is a peach and i haven't killed mine yet despite twice ingesting a tiny amount of water, Oh they will eat front tyres at a alarming rate if you don't keep a eye on them.

Apart from that, Oh the over-boost and Egr valves can cause trouble.

Mine has covered 123,000 very hard miles and cost very very little to maintain but then it doesn't get serviced or looked after very often.

OH and AVOID anything with a Sky-roof cos IT WILL LEAK at some point.

I have had to replace front springs on mine. Skyroof has never leaked. EGR valve packed up, but apart from that no problems at all. Not bad for a 7/8 year old car.

Mines great! i've had a glow plug that needed changing and it does love to eat tyres, i service mine myself making sure i use the best oil, when i got the car it wasn't in the best of condition but with a lot of tlc and a bit of luck it runs well. i would get another one.

reviews are luke warm, i will agree - i wouldnt call the stilo the most response car ever, however, i did much research before recently buying my 5 door, and the stilo could not be beaten when taking into account, insurance group, tax band, mpg, 0-60 and the cost to buy, unbeatable imho! if your not a fan of electrical problems spend £2k more and buy a focus, but it will be slower, more ecpensive to insure and less frugal!

What electrical problems

Never before owned a car where the original battery lasted over 7 years.

If you mean the false errors you can often get on startup then it seems a bit over the top to change a car for that reason (although I'm sure many have )

I always thought those errors were confirmation that everything was ok ;)

Agreed 100% - they're seriously under-rated, very smooth, fast & reliable IME.

Yes, entirely! Bought a gorgeous 54 plate 3dr Dynamic (with sky roof) and it has proven entirely ace.

Read up on known faults on here, nothing to be concerned about, and just test everything when you go to try it out!

Any worries or specific queries, post questions!!
