wipers being weired

i have a 98 punto sporting and when i use the wipers the first 2 settings dont work but the third one does work and the wipers work when lifting the lever i think it may be the relay but im not sure can any one help

Not a relay as such, but the speed controller on the motor itself.

Just pick one up from a scrappy. Easy to fit. Use some spray white gease on the pivots and shafts while you're in there.

On the Mk1 the motor is hidden beneath the black plastic bit between the screen and the bonnet.

If you google for "Punto Mk1 Workshop Manual" you'll probably find one on one of the filesharing sites.
