since my car is new and not been on the roads over winter (Yet) i though i might as well give it some TLC on the bits you dont usually see but gets subjected to probably the most abuse and hammer over the winter months..... (the underside) before the weather gets bad

did my last GP the same way so there will be a mix of pictures but this is what i did.......

First off i gave the underside a bloody good clean i splashed out on a proper underbody lance last winter so started by jacking the car up and axle standing it then applying a strong degreaser (i used Bilt Hamber surfex mixed 1:10 with water in my pump sprayer) and gave the underside a soaking with it the attacked it best i could with a soft car wash brush Once well scrubbed hit it with my Pressure washer to rinse and remove the dirt.....

Which as you can imagine leads to getting very wet and dirty (n)

anyhow once all the underside had been cleaned i took it For a blast down the motorway to blow it dry (a warm dry day helps here too)

left the car overnight then to fully dry out and allow the exhaust to cool

Next Jacked and standed the car as high as i could and ensured it wouldnt fall as i had to get right under the car

Work from the centre outwards and wear overalls and a hat as the stuff sticks to everything and ideally put a layer of plastic sheeting (Under floor Damp proofing (Viscreen) plastic is ideal) under the car to catch any drips...

I left my tins in the conservatory to warm them up a bit then started with the Hollow box sections in the chassis using the supplied rubber tube with the spray head i Did all the sections with Dynax s-50 i effectively double coated them by inserting the tube and spraying both ways Front to back then back to front spraying and slowly withdrawing the hose

((small tip put a wrap of coloured tape about 2" from the end of the tube so you know its about to drop out the hole and cover you in it when you dont realise its about to be fully pulled out))

i removed any blanking bungs in the sills and did those too

once all the hollow bits were done i then moved on to the under body UB wax and applied 2 coats 24 hours apart as per the instructions....

(you can see the single coat on the right and the 2nd coat starting to cure on the Left)

Its Policy to wrap a bit of news paper over the exhaust whilst spraying it around the exhaust area....

Once all the underside is done i then moved onto the arches one at a time removed the arch liners

and cleaned and degreased using paper towels to dry and a air line (the dynax will displace water but thought i might as well dry off the majority)

Then after a good thick coating using the straw and tube nossils to ensure i got every nook and cranny i took the Carbon box off and paid special attention up round the back of the fuel filler hole

went on to replace the arch liner carefully so as not to disturb the Dynax

And finally i moved onto the doors and boot hatch sliding the Pipe up through the drain holes and giving them a healthy soaking internally ......

To do the GP/ evo i used 4 cans of UB and 2 1/2 tins of Dynax s-50

decided to pull the boot trim off to have a look at what the covering is like with the tube

not bad to say it was done blind from the outside....

Extremely thorough job Monty! Good products used too (y) Expected nothing less from you.. How are you protecting the paintwork this Winter? Sorry if it's been said before but I haven't been on in a while. :D

the car needs a light machine polish at some point but no real desire to do it before spring bit pointless doing it just before winter...

There is no real stuff stuck on the car so started today with the Lime Prime Lite (not a fan of it really) but i might as well use it up to cleanse the paint then waxing with Collinite 915 (might as well as i have it there's not much left in the tin so im on a bit of a use it up campaign at the moment.. ;)

well i would have but i got the roof done and the bonnet just started on the boot and the heavens opened so called it a day

Need to sort mine out properly, but removing previous underseal is slow work at the moment. :(

Have you used the dynax before? How long does it stay good for?

I've always been impressed with the Bilt-Hamber products (the deox-c gel is excellent), and will probably get the cavity wax, i'm going for a stone chip coating for the underside at the moment, along with the coats of zinc primer, should adequately protect the car for now.

I did my old GP with it

(it didnt have rear arch liners in unlike the new one)

At the time all BH did was the Dynax s-50 So i lathered the arches with that and the box sections of the chassis Its not intended for a long life if exposed to UV light but the arches are usually very dark ;-)

Did them in about 2008 and it was still hanging on when i part exed it in May this year....

This time i have used their dedicated Under body for the arches and done all the underside of the car (just need to find a way to get above the fuel tank.) going to have a look this afternoon
