Hi everyone - I've just joined the "membership" so hopefully there is someone out there that can help !! Bought my Barchetta last winter with intention of using as a summer drop top. The passenger side wiper has stopped working & on investigation by dismantling the whole set up, one of the spindles has seized completely with rust. Fiat want £400+ to replace.!! It appears I need to replace the metal mechanism which has the two spindles for the wiper arms & which bolts to the wiper motor & the car. The wiper motor is working ok - I've read the set up on the Punto is the same??

Any ideas/ suggestions ?

Hi Pooch, I've not had to do any work on my wipers, so I'm afraid I can't help, but I'm sure someone will be along very soon who can.

Welcome to the forum! When you've got a minute, tell us more about your B!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Check out www.barchettaparts.com Henk (who runs it) is VERY helpful and he has a complete mechanism for 125 euros. Search on the website for carrosserie body parts. I have used his services a couple of times and I know others on the forum have too. Re the compatability with the Punto I have no idea.
Best of luck and keep us posted on how you get on.

Not sure how rusty the shaft is but, try to dismantle it. The shaft has a c clip to retain it in the unit, you will have to scrape the rust of to see this, then WD40 or simular to help remove the shaft a small hammer to persuade could help also. Have a look at the one that is still working to see what I mean, would be a good idea to dissemble both anyway
Hope this helps.

thanks for contacting - your car is the same colour/spec as mine!! - '98 LE model - getting used to the left hand drive, but some road junctions are a bit tricky so you have to have your wits about you . Also have a '72 500 which I'm restoring (with some upgrades to suspension/engine. It's an original UK car supplied locally here in south Devon - hope to have it finished by spring of next year.

many thanks for contacting & the info re parts supply which will come in very useful I'm sure. I've found on e-bay a B which is being broken. The garage are sending me the wiper mechanism = hoping this will solve my problem.

Great choice - I love my red seats! (y)

You should introduce yourself on the 500 (Classic) sub-forum - they're very friendly over there, and a great source of information/advice/parts etc

Great stuff - not that you need wipers in this weather! :D

I am in the same (little) boat myself, if you don't mind me asking what did you pay the breakers for the mechanism? did they throw in the motor?

They charged £45.00 + VAT + postage - arrived today so very good response from them & part (without the motor) looks fine so good saving obviously from Fiat price. For replacement parts good idea to look out for cars being broken. Will be fitting this weekend :)

Thanks :) I've just sourced a used one complete with motor for £90 delivered. I don't actually need a motor so will hopefully sell mine on at some point. Just wondered if I was getting a good price, seems fair going off what you've paid.

My wiper problem is a little different - the blades judder a lot, not caused by blade skipping but by what I believe to be loose joints on the mechanism. I was thinking of applying heavy grease to the joints to stop the judder. Do you perhaps have any other suggestions?
