normally it is no water in tank or corrission after water ingress to connection pins or to wiring being eaten by water ingress under insulation or the (a) pump has died.
But if you can hear the pump you may be washing the engine if a hose has burst.
Check the fuse, if OK, whip out the driver's side wheelarch liner (assuming RHD). spot the pump, pull off the connectors, clean thoroughly, coat with silicone grease or vaseline, re-attach, try again.
if yours has two motors, one for front, one for rear, swap the electrical connectors to make sure the switch is working.
I have seen corrosion in the cables coming from the motor connectors causing issues too. Peel back the insulation and check that there is shiny cable there not corroded grey mess.
