Smee Sadly the new law states no window tints forward the B pillar. If caught you are advised to remove it within 10 days, if its very dark tint you will not be able to use the car until the tints have been removed.

Pity i was well up for those tints.

Unless the front tints fade to let 70% light into the car i'll have it done.

he does a legal front plain film but not a fader film.

Aww Gutted, its the fader i was interested in.

I can't afford to get pulled by police and have to take the film off as it'll cost £90 each time to get it redone if not more.

I do alot of driving and will end up paying through the nose for it.

hmm i know wat u mean mate. ill have words when i see him he might be able to make something up...

Cheers mate. The back three windows can be like yours and wimmys but the front i don't mind having chrome aslong as it fades alot lighter at the front.

I'm from Lancs, I know a guy also who will do a deal if we all book our cars in as a booking.

Let us know your Quote and i'll see if I can get it cheaper.
Who's your contact in lancs??

Working as a "PO" I've always gone with 30% light in & 30% light out. Am sure at the moment there is nothing to say that (a) you can't have it passed the B post (b) and its 70% limit. I work in close partnership with "TO" and my last vehicle was 30% in & 30% out. And that aint because I work for them.

But having said that you're gonna have to pass the attitude test with some traffic Officers. As they will only "Advise" you to take the film from your windows. Its upto you.

Hope this helps you a little

Window Tints

As of January 1st 2004, new legislation was brought in that prohibits window tinting.

The Law:

You are not allowed to tint your windscreen or front windows AT ALL. Anything forward of the B pillar (middle of the car) MUST NOT be tinted in anyway. You are however still allowed to perform any level of tinting on your back windows.

If you've tinted you windows before January that does not mean that you are safe, if the police believe that your tint causes reduced visibility they can issue you with an order to have it removed.

Why was this law brought in?

The reason this law was introduced was that there was a serious accident between a motorbike and a heavily modified car with very dark tints. It was believed that the root cause of the accident was that the driver couldn't see well enough through his tinted windows.

its not AT ALL.... its got to transmit over 70% to avoid a ticking off. 50-70% is a ticking off. 30-50% transmission is a fine, and 10 day pohibitive order, so you get 10 days to get it fixed and re-tested by VOSA. if its under 30% transmission, you get a fine (i think its doubled) and immediate prohibition, as in, no friving till its fixed. the two people i know were allowerd to drive home though. one guy was told to wind both his front windows down for the remainder of the journey(which was at night btw) and the other had his mileage read, and told he'd be allowed no more than 50 extra miles on it when it was re-tested

i'm really fed up with these websites who read the law, then relay it on as different...

Yeah, Going back to the original post.

Its not 70% light in its 30% in & 30% out. We have a meter to test this. Like you have already stated " very Dark windows " would be up for the high jump.

Posting film over the B post, Everyone would be dragged in and warned!! Police can't resource that kind of operation. I should know. We always go by 30/30 and no darker.

Other police forces may have a different look on the limit depending on stats and the level of %.

Your all safe within GMP.

Yeah but i travel from North to South In the Summer, travelling through many countys.

So excatly what does 30% in and 30% out mean?

Joske

The % is light. You must allow 30% light in and 30% light out.

i.e. If you did your rear windows higher than 30% and say you did 35% on the rear window alone or all the back three, the meter would not calculate 30% in/out. I always advise people to keep it to 30% in/out.

VOSA are not a police body, so if your stopped by them " which they are not supposed to do " tell them to get the meter out for the windows.

I've done this job for over 4years now and never heard of anything like i've read above.

Sorry if i've offended some people on this subject but sounds like chinese whispers!!

Roger..... Me aswell!!
Getting back to the post.

Lets all play nice.. I'll be having the 30% in and out. why would I have it to the 30% standard knowing its wrong??

( Cheapest Quotes, and i'll see if I can get it cheaper )

Ok i'm getting persuaded again. So 30% in and 30% out is legal.

So SMee are the tints you have 30% in and 30% out?

Joske

no, 30% passing through is quite dark. its what my side rears are done in for those of you at donny. 70% is the law, however, as i said, you only get a warning from 50-70% and a fine if its darker. if you get 30%, and they test it and its 29% or lower, you really will be in hot water...
