So fronting then.

Not a good idea at all, you're never going to get cheap insurance if you don't put it in your name.

Both you and your mum run the risk of being done for insurance fraud also tbh. Not a very sensible idea at your age as you'll have to declare that on all insurance policies for the rest of your life.

no we done it in time befor the new law came out, been pulled many times by traffic cops and everything and they where fine with it

There is no 'new' law, its always been fronting and has always been fraudulent by deception, unless your mothers insurance company know you're the main driver, and are happy with this.

Aside from what's already been mentioned, if the policy isn't in your name you're not going to be accruing any NCD, so it's not really going to get any cheaper until you're 21+.
Then again, if you have deep pockets then it's no problem.

PAH!
im 23 with 6 years soon, and i wouldnt dare get a HGT,
For an active sport mk2b - its more because its ""more sporty""

Letalone an engine that can actually go!
I've paid around the £600 marker for me!

Dig deep - or live with it

Thing is tho - speed isn't everything, and thats what catches alot of young drivers out

The 1.2 8v is more then powerful enough to keep with traffic, can happily cruise on motorways and long dual carriageways!

plus the 1.2 8v is a cracking little engine and will do you prowd once you have a few NCDs

a 1.2 8v Mia mk2 is a group 7 on insurance
A 1.2 8v Active Sport Mk2b is a group 9
A 1.2 16v Active Sport Mk2b is a group 12
a HGT mk2 is a group 27 insurance

So im affraid the phrase - go figures comes to mind

Ziggy

ill stay on added driver till i get better job to get a deposit for my own insurance, yeah ziggy good point, lowering the car makes corner better so it will keep up, ill probly keep this punto then but this punto keeps going wrong lol ohh well, ill deal with it

thanks!:)

ive got a few friends who are just starting out to drive, who said about going on parents insurance, i was like no no no! dig deep and get your own policy for good reasons one being you can rack up yearly ncd's (as long as you dont claim on insurance at any stage until your renewal date. thats the main logic.)
you can do a shared policy, say for example if you and your dad both used the car, and he is the primary driver, and your the secondary driver, but the catch on that is your not allowed to do more miles than the primary driver otherwise its classed as illegal, so in other words if you want to drive then bite the bullet like everyone else has done like me for example i had to pay out £2,500 for my first year of passing for a measly 1.2 corsa! i now pay on my punto £1,256.10 which is abouit £130-35 a month the 30 or 35 is the extra i pay for the mods declared to my insurer:)
if you get pulled over for whatever reason and they ask to check insurance details, you'll be screwed! its happened to a friend of mine, i called him an idiot, i guess some people have to learn the hard way eh?

Not sure what you're on about secondary and primary drivers, sounds like you've just described fronting.

Best and cheapest way is to get your own policy and add parents as a named driver.

Can also look at some of the multi car / multi vehicle policy's done by Aviva / Direct Line etc for some Better bigger discounts.

i mean like named driver #1 and then add another named driver, but on this are you not allowed to do more miles than the policy holder? if im wrong its cool:p

Still sounds like fronting. If you own the car / use it the most then you should be the policy holder. Then again all insurance co's are different and some can have you as a named driver but still mark them as main driver.

I think you're getting confused by complicating the matter using 2nd driver. You're either the policy holder or named driver. A policy can only have one policy holder, but often up to 4 further named drivers.

yes me getting confused sorry, what i meant was policy holder + named driver, in that case is tha named driver not allowrd to do as most miles as polict holder? thats what i heard...

Main driver needs to be who uses it the most, not always down to mileage covered, depends upon the insurer also so always best to ask.
