Hi
I am planning to replace the engine in my lhd motorhome which has a 2.5l non turbo diesel engine(very noisey and sluggish). Has anyone replaced an engine in one of these older vans for a more modern engine,if so what engine was used and how much modifications were needed. Will a 2.8jtd fit?
Best Regards

Is it the 89-94 model or the start of the 94-2002 model?

Jtd will require an enormous amount of wiring, the 2.8 idtd is almost the same power, similar mpg and much simpler beast. Thats what I'd be lookng for.

I don't know exactly what would be involved but if you're putting in a turbo engine you'd want the turbo wheels, hubs, brakes, servo/master cylinder, driveshafts, gearbox too I'd imagine

Hi
It is the 89-94 model, sounds as if my best bet is to find a donor vehicle with one of these engines. Thanks for your reply.

It will be too much work and cost. For suspension, hubs, brakes etc your donor vehicle would need to be from the same era, then you'd need to figure out fitting the modern engine and gearbox so you'll probably need driveshafts welded up and balanced, gearbox mounts and possibly engine mounts welded together.

You best bet is get a similar era van with a good 2.5 td and still its a lot of work.
