Please bare with me while i try and explane my problem..

I bought my Cinq Sporting just over a month ago and since then ive done nothing but throw money at it ,Problem after Problem and finally after thinking that all my problems were solved I've found another one hopefully the last.:bang:

But i cant for the life of me figure this one out

The car starts up first time everytime , theirs no tapping or any wierd noises from the engine but when driving the car and the revs get to around 3k its like the car is starving itself of fuel but once you put your foot to the floor the problem goes away but still comes back randomly
this problem doesnt occour when the car is stationary ,only when moving

This problem occours with the engine hot or cold.
ive replaced the fuel filter, plugs and ht leads to try and conquer this problem to no avail.

I'd appreciate any help i can get on this , thanks

hi mate

hmmmm thats an odd one, coil packs perhaps? (maybe they struggle when the engine is under load) sorry i cant help you more but mine is a 899cc so its a bit different.

cheers

lambda or MAP sensor. leaning more toward lambda.

with it not working properly, the ECU will get the fueling wrong. but when you floor it, the ECU ignores the readings from the lambda sensor and uses the preset maps in the ECU.

so from what you've said, i'd lean toward lambda - but maybe MAP too. (assuming all the vacuum tubes are ok and not leaking)

Ahhh.. this could explain why it seems to to be drinking petrol :bang:

I had replaced all the vacuum tubes with new tubes when i found one with a crack in it :D

thanks for your help, I'll try a new lambda and see what happens..

If it does it from cold, MAP.

The lambda should be doing nowt until the engine water temp has reached 70C or so.

Okay so i'll try the cheaper option first ie: map
i just hope its not the lambda, this car is bleeding me dry..lol

thanks fingers99

i don't know the full specifics of the ECU, but, it'll be using the MAP to work out when the car is at full throttle. You'd think it'd use the TPS, but that'll just be used to judge sudden changes in throttle posistion (ie acceleration).

The lambda kicks in way before the engine is at 70c, the lambda just needs to heat up which takes around 15 seconds on a wideband and can't see why it'd take much more on a narrowband.

Some usefull stuff on lambdas here including some testing proceedures (multi-meter at the ready!).

As I see it, what the ECU does is crucial. I think, when the engine water temp is low, the engine is effectively running way, way, richer than stoichometric. What would be the point of the ECU using lambda readings at that point?

i decided to try my way of testing,

heres what i did:

I started the car up this morning (didnt drive just started) engine sound sweet.. I then turned the engine of and unpluged the Map sensor and started the car up again , the engine was running like a dog (rough), plugged the Map sensor back in and everything sweet again.

then i decided to do the same for the lambda. Unplugged it, went for a 10 minuite drive and no problems what so ever, No fuel starvation drove like a dream. I then waited aprox 1hr for the engine to cool down plugged the lambda back in, went for another 10 minuite drive and the problems came back.
decided to double check and waited for the engine to cool down for a couple of hrs left the lambda plugged in within 30 secs of setting of the problem starts again so popped the bonnet unplugged the lambda (engine off of coarse) and everything was fine.

I know its not a very technical way of finding fault but to me it sounds like the lamda sensor is on the blink.
I think i need to teach myself how to use a multimeter, might make solving problems a bit easier

well the lamba can actually gather soot, and takes longer to heat up ect, but it can screw the sensor up... If you have a quick wikipedia search on it, it will tell you IF you can sort it out. But with that said above me, it definately sound's like it is the lambada, from the word "wierd"... and when you putting your foot down, and it being alright, seems to me i woulda gone there in the first place....... :p

I have NO idea about cars exept the lil nigly bits like these, i'm a computer geek, so anything to do with ECU's and sensors... im a good guy... i hope lol

Hope you get it sorted!

i got a NGK lamba sensor for sale if interested its only been on the car for about 5k im on wideband sensor now so no need for it

How much are you asking?

It's worthwhile trying to clean it, but Bosch recon that they should be replaced at 60k (then again, they would)!

the car has anly done 45k :D
