General Why did you buy your Uno?

I bought my Uno primarily as a car to learn some more mechanical skills on. While I could do the basics, oil etc I wanted to take it a bit further and there are certainly a few things that need doing. I've always owned new and relatively expensive cars so little need to do much and this risks are too high, I can afford to wreck a £100 car but a £10k is another matter. They are cheap and simple to work on so an ideal car to try a few things out without the risk of inflicting expensive damage. I've a good apptitude for this sort of thing but little real hands-on experience so I'm enjoying getting my hands dirty.

Had my first go at welding yesterday with limited success, actuallym make that no success. My practice piece was way too thin and even at the lowest power setting was blowing straight through. Off to find some 2mm metal tonight to practice some more.

The other reason was after looking at the car I needed a means of getting home and therefore paid the money and drove away there and then. Had I had another means of transport I probably wouldn't have bought it! Expensive Taxi.

Then: I was looking for loadspace which a Golf couldn't give due to the slanting rear window - UNO could take my gig kit including two bulky PA speakers with the seats folded down.
Got it at a good price - one previous owner with full service history up to 60000kms (Now 3 years later at 145000kms)

Now: Reliability, fuel economy and not scared to travel long distances daily. I'm enjoying every minute behind the wheel!
:D

Alex GS - no wonder the boot closes so easily they've removed the gas strutts. Although funnily, when my strutts went the boot never wanted to stay open on its own like that.

Feel cheated too that just when the uno is going to pancake into the ground and you think you'll get to see what it must be like to crash in one, they cut to it being gently lowered to the ground by a crane.

I bought my uno because its cheap to run and fix. Endless hours of fun finding out where its next started to rust (yesterday, I took the door panel off to fix the lock and found it was merrily rusting away inside just underneath the window rubbers). You never get bothered by girlfriends asking you to give them endless lifts everywhere. + I never feel guilty about not cleaning the inside of it and God it needs a clean.

I was looking to start driving once I'd passed my test (as you do) but knew it'd be a pretty major undertaking to buy myself a car and hope that it wouldn't fall apart as soon as I drove it away... so I pestered my mum for months while I was learning, to get her to give/sell me her 999cc Uno.

Needless to say she was reluctant (she'd been driving the car for 11 years since brand new)! ...but eventually my dad persuaded her that it was maybe time for a new one, and Bob's your uncle, my parents got a new Dobló and I got a mint 11-year-old Uno with 44k miles on the clock and one lady owner from new :slayer:

'tis great for learning about maintenance etc, and I figure if I'm just starting to drive I should also be learning about the rest of the jobs and things that go with it. Also holds a ton of gear -- drum kit and PA fit easily into the back (square cars rule!) (y)

I bought it, because I had dreamed about it when I was like 16. I had lots of material about uno, so I just had to get my uno turbo :) liked fast cars. and when I got 18 and saw one on the market I just had to buy it, It wasnt in a good shape at all, bu t here in Estona are like 5 -10 Uno Turbos, so I had to take it or leave it. Of course I took it and it is almost completely repaired.
