Hi all. Got my Eleganza yesterday and have been trying to find a CD autochanger that will work with the 'Connect' unit, but information is a bit thin on the ground. Does anyone know what units or adaptors on the market will work with it? I already have a 10 disc Sony that I could put in with the correct adaptor. Thanks!

Hi,

The unit is made by Magnetti Marelli, I think. Does your dealer have any more info on the connections behind the unit to allow you to plug an auto-changer into!

Thanks for that. Been on to the local dealer parts department who say there are 3 possible autochangers available from Fiat, so I am waiting to see what (horrendous) cost they come back with! I have asked Car Electronics in Leicester to see which adaptor could be used but they say they need the manufacturer and part no. for the head unit. Looks like I might have to take it out and have a look to see what labels are on it.

Where did you get to with the CD stacker - I'd be interested to know as I am currently regretting not specifying it on my car.

The CD-changer that came with mine is a Clarion - it sits between the front passenger seats, and has a bit of carpet over it. This means that the load retaining straps on the side of the seat are useless BUT it means I still have use of a glovebox.

M6 Fan - I didn't get anywhere with the CD changer. Over 2 weeks since dealer said they would come back to me and a so-called specialist in Leicester has been the same. See my other topic entitled "MP3 instead of CD changer/GPS cable?" dated 27/06/04

I think that this is a much better (and cheaper) solution.

leighc - my CD changer is also a Clarion (6 disc), according to my local dealer, you should be able to use Clarion and most probably the player is by clarion.

Hi Lou

Went for a 20GB MP3 player with input via a FM modulator. Just tune the radio to the modulator frequency, set the MP3 to play and away it goes. Not finished downloading CD's to it yet but its got about 30 albums on there and only used about 3gig.

Cheers[8D]

Hi Leigh,

Thanks for that. Do you have any more details as this seems the best option by far. I'm not too clued up on this but I assume the FM modulator connects directly to the aerial input (at the rear of the car?) and what about any track information, do you have a separate control to view this or is it a small MP3 player that sits on the dash? When the MP3 player is playing do any of the satnav announcements or the built-in phone ringing mute the sound. I am guessing as it is using an FM channel it would.

Any info would be useful as retro-fitting the proper FIAT kit is very expensive and the people at http://www.add-a-cdchanger.co.uk/ say that trying to fit a proper unit to work with the controls on the Ulysse is not currently possible. They had this problem with the Stilo. Every time somebody upgraded the software on the RT3 unit or whatever system the Stilo has it messed up the interface and nothing would work so they stopped doing it.

Thanks

Lou

Where is the MP3 player hidden and how is it powered (this might seem a dumb question but I can't think my way round it right now).

Hi chaps,

In answer to your questions:-

- the modulator is a small box that I have hidden behind one of the lower dashboard panels. The car aerial cable connects to this and the MP3 player connects via phono plugs. A new aerial lead then goes to the car radio. The modulator I have requires a 12v supply. You may find some on ebay at reasonable prices.
- the track info is displayed only on the MP3 player. It has a LCD display built in and you can set up playlists etc. The one I have is a Creative Jukebox 3. See www.creative.com.
- The satnav and phone interruptions work as normal
- I have it positioned in the small shelf below the steering wheel which is ideal or it could go on top if required.
- The MP3 player has rechargable batteries that give about 8 hours playing time. I think that there is also a car adaptor available for it.

Hope that this helps[8D]
