General whistle noise from gearbox when i change gear

can anyone help me i have a fiat scudo on a 54 plate and there is a whistle coming from the gear box or engine when i change gear, the van has no turbo so that counts that out will it be gear box oil i need and if yes were is the refill hole on the gearbox
