Technical whine when put into 5th

I have a slight whine when i pop the car into 5th

its a 5spd model all the rest of the gears are fine

is this normal?

No, but As long as you know the fluid isn't low (there's a dipstick for it) then I wouldn't worry about it. I'd consider changing the fluids if it's been a while (or if you're not sure the last time they were changed) amazing what a difference it can make. One of the guys on t'other forum had a whiny 6th speed and ran over 400BHP through it for years with no problems. It's probably just a little worn.
