Hi,

Last year I changed my head gasket with the help of the Forum and have done a couple of thousand miles since with no problems - thankyou again to everyone who helped me out.

I now have developed a quite high pitched whining noise from the lhs of the engine block. It has developed over the last couple of hundred miles or so. It sounds to be in the general area of the various belts/wheels but could be something unrelated. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be - I'm just rubbish at diagnosing what is wrong.

The noise is there when stationary with the clutch down and the gears disengaged.

All help gratefully received

John

Hi this could be down to the cambelt tensioner, water pump bearing or alternator bearings being dry and could be the start of bearing failure.simple way to find which it is,take the alternator belt off and then start the car if the noise is still there is will be cambelt tensioner or water pump bearing,if its gone then its alternator bearing(y)(y)(y)
