Agreed :)

Maybe I'm just a bit snooty but I don't really fancy tyres made by a company who does stuff like this -> http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/firstdrives/233490/alfa_mito_marangoni_m430.html

Maybe like Vredestein they're another company which isn't one of best known, but that make great tyres.

I thought THAT was rather harsh 306maxi as Grimwau is a long standing and very respected member of this forum. And knowing him he was just having a little chuckle :D Lighten up mate! ;)

I bumped this thread yesterday, not out of pure badness, but also keeping in mind that there are owners and members here who have only recently joined the forum, say in the last 6 months, who have not had to consider their winter tyre choice yet.

One of these threads is bad enough, without there being a few more.

Its now 11 degrees here and wet, Toyos working fine, may delay quatracs for a couple of weeks yet.

Cheers

It does seem daft running two threads which are basically the same.
I would have thought it would be better to create a new section within Miscellaneous, maybe something like 'Winter' where tyres, antifreeze, etc etc can be discussed. This isn't a thread specific to the 500 and having it in Misc will enable more people to comment on things like tyres etc for different Fiat models.

The Marangoni 4 Winter may come close to (say) the Vredestein Snowtrac3 or Fulda Kristall Montero3 in snow & ice - but unfortunately they’re poor when conditions turn wet.

.

Considering the winters we get that's a rather large flaw. I'm happy with the Snowtrac's, wouldn't bother with anything else other than them or another recognised brand.

When is the best time to go to winter tyres then?

current car has a set of winter tyres on one axle... fortunately not doing many miles at the moment so wear isn't a problem. but will probably get a another set of winter tyres soonish for the winter as it's RWD and quite light.

After a lumpy drive to work this morning I decided at 12 noon it was time for the quatracs after all.

14.20 pm, out comes a lovely warm sun......................begger.

Cheers

The way the weather's going I wonder if we'll even need winter tyres this year :p

Ah, but no.

By the time I left work last night it was down to 5 degrees and was minus 1 this morning when taking daughter to school.

Boy am I glad I changed tyres yesterday.

MPG has also improved with the lighter, narrower tyres.

Cheers

Winter tyres on now :)

Apparently there's a slight chance of snow tomorrow :D Hope that's a sign of things to come :)

No snow yet but a bit of ice. First tank after changing tyres and I got 50.6mpg which is a good increase from 45's and 47's. Car is at the moment sitting at just under 60mpg indicated with some rather careful driving :)

Mine's gone from low 50s to high 50s with the smaller tyres.......and new injectors.

Cheers

Winter tyres came in VERY useful today :D 1-2 inches of snow on the roads here and I was overtaking people like nobody's business :D Kept on getting beeped and flashed at. If not for running out of fuel I would have been in work very early today!
