I know pensioners who drive 1960s V8s weighing nearly 2 tons without power steeing.
Unless you have a disability severe enough to qualify for free car under a mobility allowance you dont need PAS on a small car.
PAS is fitted on small cars for 2 maybe 3 reasons.
1) IF a car does not need or have PAS, if the opposition has it then it looks worse on the speck sheet and you may loose customers.
2) It adds complexity and helps to ensure a 10 year old car become unecconomical to repair continueing market for new cars.
3) Small cars are marketted as easy to drive, easiest to drive usually = PAS.
