 Welcome to FF. :)
IMO it'd be better to get insurance when you pass your test :) I would have thought it would be cheaper.........................:)

ello agen, cheers 4 gettin back to me on that, the only reason i asked was because when i phoned an asked about it the girl on the other end said its cheaper to get insured provisionally coz ur seen as less of a threat coz u gota drive with sum1 with u - sounds mad doesnt it but just thought id run it by u!

Well, I got quotes with the AA, both as provisional and new driver, and was getting the same price. From what I can gather, the AA is one of the cheapest and has good cover and customer service. Through my dad, I only pay £500 to insure my car (96 Bravo 1.4 SX) with nil voluntary excess ... as a provisional driver living in a scumbag car-theiving git-hole!

do yyou feel that you would go out learning in your car much?

if so, then getting the provisional insurace may be a good idea

but, as you've only got 3 weeks til your test id just have as many lessons with an instructor, and put the money you would sepnd on the provisional insurance or your reall insurance :D

okay ;)

yep I second what Hellcat said

Here's the figures I got for a 1995 Fiat Punto 1.2sx

Myself on Provisional: £750 with Provident (Still not cheap but...)

Myself, Passed with Pass Plus: £1800! with Endsleigh

Trust me, that was the cheapest quote I could find, and the Punto didnt last that long anyway, so my first car was the Sei.

Also, yeah it can be a pain as you need someone whos over 21(?) in the car constantly, but you get experience that you just dont get with a driving instructor; you're in total control

That's what I was told too which is why I got my insurance a week before my 1st test. Apparently you save money getting insured on provisional and then the premium doesn't increase when you switch over to full. Not to mention that you start your NCB, so for me it worked out well as I didn't pass until my 3rd test 4 months later so I had that 4 months NCB without actually driving!

Vicky :)

I'd say get your own insurance if its your car, you'll earn NCD from your provisional driving in most cases, and when you do pass the increase in premium will most likely be less than starting a new policy.

Also consider (as already mentioned ) pass plus, and taking a defensive driving course (either IAM or one of the many other organisations which are insurance approved)

Could any of you guys point me in the direction of where to get cheap provisional insurance for my car, been looking everywhere and with my test coming up next week I am getting desperate.

Seeing people quote 500 quid is a bargain or even 750 as I have only got quots of 2500.

Any help would be appreciated.

I found the AA was the cheapest for provisional insurance.

CIS seem to be the cheapest between the age range of 17 - 20 and then Liverpool Victoria gave nice qoutes for age range 20+

Also Adrian Flux qouted me £825 Fully Comp on a Turbo conversion so there are good deals out there!

Try www.confused.com it takes some minutes to fill in the forms but it will find a very cheap qoute for you I am sure

Good luck!
