hi there all.have just bought a mk 1 uno turbo and am looking for tuning advice.ive been told that a mk2 uno turbo manifold will fit an mk1 and this increses your choice of turbos.my questions are which are the best turbos to use and can they be robbed off of other cars and fitted easily? for example would a rs turbo turbo fit? and so on.many thanks,Dave. :slayer:

A T25 is a bolt-on to a MK2 manifold

The fuel system (pump, injectors, pressure-regulator, etc, etc) is good for 1.0 BAR (14.5PSI)

I think you'll be ok with a T25 but i havent used one before (Never did when i had mine) so others can help you with that

I will be using a t25 thrust bearing water cooled turbo from a renault 5 on my punto. I recon I will get the up to 250hp unit I could get the 300+ but I recon the smaller unit will be best for me. I have been given a great price by my local turbo supplier.. give these guys a call www.aetturbos.com

i had a t28 on my old uno, depends what you want to use it for and when you want it boosting

That really is the big question you have to ask yourself to be honest.

I expect you T28 was on full boost nearer 4k than 3 wasn't it? Mines laggy as, just means you spend more time higher in the revs but it can be an arse sometimes.

higher than that, the cam played a part in that aswell, i made it to rev high tho, dont think a t28 would suit a normal engine.
t25 prob the best bet or a hybrid t2

"which is the best turbo charger for the uno?" - the original one ;)

For me anyway. Having a bigger turbo tends to subtract a little from the low-speed pickup (as Tom is very honest about! :)) and you run the risk of lessening the fuel economy (my Uno Turbo gets an amazing 46MPG on trips) so while my standard turbo's still working and boosting from 2000RPM, I'm leaving it alone. Someone spent a long time getting that tiny compressor wheel right - I'm sure bigger turbos are not really more expensive to make than tiny turbos - so I'll respect their judgement. (And then having a ride in someone else's modified Uno is still exciting!)

But if you decide to modify then it sounds like the t25 is the way to go. I'd want a fifth injector too, I think (cheapest) or a replacement engine management system. In NZ we have something called the 'Link'.

There are many IHI turbos that will fit. Some are a straight bolt on, some take a little work some take a lot of work.

Fitting a garrett is a PITA, you will have to change everything, all the piping, exhaust, inlet, oil lines etc etc. the Mk2 manifold makes it bolt on but thats the easy part.

Fitting a Punto GT turbo is not worth the effort, its virtually no different.

Steve, I wonder if the English find it much easier to get the Garretts than the IHIs... that was the impression I got from talking to one of them, since they don't have the Familia turbo, Legacy GT, Diahatsu this-n-that etc. over there?

Otherwise I stand corrected and don't worry, I was not thinking of a Garrett conversion on my car.

i understand what alex said in one of his posts.until i bought my uno i never heard of IHI turbos.ive been around rs turbos, fiat coupes and 200sx's which all use garrett turbos.which cars use IHI turbo's?to be honest i just want the best product for my car.i love retro cars and want to keep mine on the road as long as possible but i also want to get the most speed out of my uno because there is nothing better then blowing away a fat modern expensive car that thinks its faster then the old school!!!:D

IHI turbos are used on

Fiat
Maserati
Ferrari
Mazda
Isuzu
Subaru

and many more

IHI do small turbos well. Small Garretts are generally not so great.
