pretty sure the thoughts accross the board was valeo proved to be the strongest non uprated clutch.

As with the coupes, alot of people run standard clutchs, i am running near on 300bhp on a standard clutch with no slip, soon to be near 400ishbhp and will still be using standard clutch

Yeah i'm running the standard clutch in mine, Valeo. Remapped the same as Lozz's. I've been told by two mechanics that the Valeo is the stronger clutch and is approx 20% more uprated than other clutches available.

There 'was' an uprated clutch for the Bravo JTD by Helix.

Tommy, let me know what quotes you get back, cheapest ive had was 350 from FIAT believe it or not, for a Valeo clutch fitted its was 468! It must be cheaper than this.

How much was yours to buy and fit Joske?

Thanks

Stu

I paid something like £320 to purchase the valeo clutch and to have it fitted. 8 hours labour though.

Im gettin as many quotes as i can and theyre mostly coming back over 500!

Goto a good small independant garage. Buy your clutch from www.shop4parts.co.uk and ask them to fit it. Garages charge £25 an hour therefore 8 x £25 = £200 plus price of clutch.

I will do, my local mech doesnt fit clutches as he is a one man band and says it'll be cheaper going mr clutch!

Anyway, ill source one out.

Thanks

Stu

do not under any circumstances go to mr clutch...they are pap and so are their clutches. I had one from there, it lasted 4 weeks!

i agree, dont go anywhere near Mr clutch, they are a bunch of cowboys...

i went to them with a very slippy clutch and they told me it was the gearbox, to which my response was yeah, the box is on its way out, but i want anew clutch fitted, to which they refused. day later clutch dies in spectacular fashion, have to get them to do the replacement as they are the only ones that can fit me in for 3 weeks, get it done, they call to tell me i need a new gearbox, it wont last the drive home, told me it will be £1500 + vat!!! no chance

the sodding clutch gave up in under 2 weeks, before the box did

Patch is staying for a bit longer... long live the HGT (well the memory anyway... :()

LUK and Valeo have the same clutch - I have a LUK one, on the box its LUK and on the clutch parts its Valeo, they just buy from them or Valeo does the manufacturing

£25 and hour is the cheapest labour rate you'll find. Up here in Scotland i pay £25 or £30 depending where i go. I suspect the closer you get to London, the closer you get to £40 an hour labour charges. However, in 2005 the garage removed my clutch and gearbox, replaced the clutch, and had the gearbox repaired somewhere else, then refitted it all. Total labour bill was only 6hours. So if they can do a clutch AND gearbox in 6 hours, I have to wonder if the guy who is only replacing the clutch but wants 8 hours only has one hand or something? Seems a LOOOOoooong time to swap a clutch imo. i'd have thought at most half of that time!

Yeah they all seem to charge for 8 hours,
its a shame cos my mech doesnt fit them as he only charges 15 quid per hour!

Stu

to be honest Buzz, getting the gearbox of a diesel is similar to getting it of a hgt, not as easy a job as any of the others hence the extra labour

im glad i do all my own work now, can wip of a box, clutch off and new one on and box back on (be it a new one or the old one(on the rear ocasionn it comes off and not needs replacing..) in a day myself, but thats alot to do with practice and knowing exactly what i need to do in what order without having to refer to anything anymore...

The Valeo Clutch on shop4parts is for 1.9 TDS and the one for JTD is made by FIAT, I take it the Valeo TDS one wont go on the JTD right?

(just for future reference)
