Hi, I have one key that remotely locks/unlocks but won't start the engine - and one key that won't remotely unlock but will start the engine.
Can I transfer the immobiliser chip to the good remote?
If so - where is it? Part of the circuit board or in the blade of the key?

p.s. Can I send the dead one off when ordering aftermarket replacement fobs or does it have to be a fully functional one?
Edit: It's a 2007 120 Multijet Ducato

It may depend upon the age of the vehicle, and whether or not the remote unlocking is prformed by an OEM device.

I have seen some pictures on forum, of key fobs with the chip mounted on the fob PCB, but while it may have an aeriel loop on the PCB there is no other connection to the chip.

On my x244 vehicle the alarm is an aftermarket device. I have not had cause to pull the flip key apart, but the chip is in there.

If not using Fiat, then my understanding is that a vehicle locksmith would require a working chip to clone. The original setup would probable involve two different key codes being paired with the vehicle. If you are one of thse people who are fortunate in having a key code card, this card should give details.

It's a 2007 120 multijet - I forgot to say, sorry.

You'd need to post pictures of both keys for me to be sure. But if you have a usual set the answer is no.

You can get to a car locksmith to come to the vehicle and make you two new keys, i suggest you do that.

My knowledge is limited to the 3-button remote for my 2018 Ducato, but I assume there are similarities. I replaced the key PCB for a new one that could also control an aftermarket alarm. The original PCB had the immobilizer chip mounted on it (1:st picture), but the new one did not. There is a recess in the key casing where a stand-alone chip can be inserted (2:nd picture). A locksmith provided the new chip and cloned the ID from my spare key into it. He also needed access to the car since he needed to record the "challenge code" sent out from the immobilizer in order to "build" the proper response code.
