I hope you guys aren't getting sick of me to much but I really don't know much about cars but I am getting there very slowly. However I was just wondering where the air filter is located? I have been looking at the k&n air filter the one that's like a rectangle haha. But I don't understand where it would go under the bonnet so can anyone tell me where my air filter will be located pleeeease :yum:

The rectangular one will be for Mk1's, Cinquecentos, early Seicentos.

You see the almost round black thing maybe 18" or so across on top of the engine? It's held on by 3 or 4 screws?

That's the air filter cover.

You desperately need a manual. The Haynes is pretty good. Usually a few on eBay, but remember you want one for the Mk2.

The funny thing is when you remove the big black thing, you actually wonder where the heck is the engine!

Wait till you have removed the engine bay crap - like battery and radiator and bumpers etc - its like What the hell?

Anyway

That BIG black Circular thing with a pipe coming out the side going to the side of the car

Yea thats the airbox -
Removal is undone the clip holding the external pipe - 2x10mm Bolts and 1 spring retaining clip at the front
It simply pulls off then

But if your doing just an airfilter change or check
There are a series of like 12x Screws - Either they come out
Or are a pain galore and refuse to budge
pop em out - light taps around edges and it pops off - pull filter out
hoover box out - new filter in - screw it down in pattern so it sits flat (box method)
And your done :)
5mins :)

Not 100% correct, my 06 punto has a square filter housing on it, and its an original one fitted to the car

Yeah I did mean the manufacturers handbook! Found a place near me that does them for £16.99 reckon I should go for it?

You can often get them for around a fiver on eBay (sometimes including the wallet, radio handbook, etc., and all the promotional bumf that originally came with the car...) -- although they don't seem to crop up that often, I'm afraid.... :(

<trundles off to eBay; trundles back...>

Just had a quick peek: and £16.99 suddenly looks pretty good, actually... -- although why the Mk2b (2003 on) handbooks should be so much more expensive than the Mk2, I don't know.

So, after all that, ignore my first paragraph, and go for it... (especially if it contains all that extra stuff...)! (y)

PS: Sorry, you can tell it's late.... You may also want to have a look in the Downloads section...!
