Red hatched box, the fusebox in the photo is from a manual car so it's missing

Just swap it for one of the similar ones and see if the symptoms change
I posted the photo of what fuse box looks like but thats not mine and car is automatic

Your car has a relay here

Hi koalar,

Might that relay be the same for a manual car please ?

No not normally

Manual cars don't have an inhibitor relay normally, there are some exceptions i believe

It's the dialogic control system that uses a relay and waits until it's confirmed it's safe to start, when it then energises the relay to allow the cranking

You don't want the car shooting forward or reverse as the engine kicks in

I just answered the question asked by the original poster as to which is the starter relay, it's not shown in their photo as that a photo of a manual fusebox,

I haven't tried to diagnose the problem and just answered the question given, as it wasn't being answered

I leave that to the 500L experts

Thanks.koalar.

Immoboliser system disables fuel pump whilst leaving cranking function alone ?

Other systems may be unfluenced by the immobiliser system as well ?

Probably severely restricted info on that subject/system........

So, if cars systems all ok up until the pre cranking state, ie ignition on, what influences the relay to prevent engine starting in gear ?

P and n as was stated many replies ago.....

I wonder if those "sensors" are mounted under the car and open to water, road salt, etc.... ?

May even be "or" logic gate ?

The dialogic senses the gear sends it to the body computer
The body computer send the gear to dash computer and energies the relay

A faulty relay is common they can be bypassed to sort an emergency roadside repair but isn't recommended as dangerous, if your in the desert about to die yes, on a drive just confirm or eliminate and move on

The 500 and panda manual will crank without an ECU fitted

I think in north America and Canada 500L may have "normal" auto boxes rather than dualogic automated manual.
Different engine options too.

Good point

I doubt it will make any difference on the inhibitor relay, I have no info on USA or candan variations or wiring

500L is an odd one out as it has a park on the robotized gearbox so you can't tell just by looking at the gear stick

Optional extra from 2015 on the 1.4 multiair turbo Easy and Trekking trim levels and standard on the Lounge model

DEpeebles,

Have you read " fiat 500 1.2 any idea where this wire goes ? " Thread posted last Sunday at 1:47 ??

Read it all, then read koalas addition to another thread concerning the weird effects of bad earth's....

Maybe of some help to you...

May I say that some of your answers are vague....

Anyways, both of the threads mentioned are a good read and may prove relevent to quite a few problems asked about on here.....

Love, peace and happiness....it's valentines day 🥰
