General when can a car be registered?

At what point will a dealer try to register a vehicle? when it's in the country or when they have their hands on it?

I'm suspicious my dealer will do all he can to have mine registered before year end, if it's made it to the country can it be registered even if the dealer's not taken delivery & prepared it for the customer?

It could potentially be registered at any point, however it'll only be done on the day of collection, as that's when Warrentee will start.

The car can be registered at the point that it clears customs and 'exists' in the country.

Your dealer will probably want to register it at the end of the year, and realistically you'll probably only miss out on a week or two of warranty from that point, so if it was me and the dealer asked to sort out insurance etc "ready for when the car arrives", I'd ask if they were trying to register the car before it arrives, and then say yes, as long as you can supply Mats/Mudflaps/Fuel/whatever.
