My L has an after market steering wheel and horn assembly. See pic 1.

I'm fitting a reconditioned original black one with all the external bits as pic 2 but it has no internals to make the horn work.

None of the bits from pic 1 horn assembly fit wheel in pic 2.
Which bits am I missing to make my new old wheel and horn work?
Also pic 1 shows the cable passing through the wheel to plug into the horn assembly.
Pic 2 shows no hole for a cable to pass through so what does the cable connect to and where ?

This was supposed to be the final job on my new interior!!!!! ☹

I did try to hijack FIAT HORN post below but it got no replies but if you look the horn assembly is what I have.

Cheers for looking and hopefully replying.

David

I too have an after-market horn on my 500--it also has just one wire coming to it, with all the mechanism for the horn in the button. I will have a look at and see how it differs from yours.

I have just looked at the 'after-market' steering wheel and horn on my 500. Like yours, it has just 1 wire coming out from beside the central nut. My horn button assembly is held in place by a spring that runs round the circumference of the horn button assembly. I am assuming that the horn is 'earthed' through this spring, and thence throught the steering wheel, steering column and finally, the chassis. The horn button assembly is one with the 'Abarth' badge on it, and is available as a seperate part from Middle Barton Garage

Thank you for the reply.

I wish to fit an original reconditioned L steering wheel and get rid of the after market one.

The reconditioned one has no visible hole for a cable to pass through so how does it connect to power the horn button.

The horn assembly from the after market one is a different diameter to fit in the reconditioned one so I'm assuming there was a specific horn assembly for it.

This all seems to make sense in my head ?

This is the back of an early 126 steering wheel. The brass ring makes contact with sprung brass contacts on the top of the indicator stalk assembly that supplies the earth contact which the horn push completes the circuit.

Horn push button has a large brass washer and there must have been a spring that I don’t have

Have answered my own question!

For both after market and original steering wheels the set up is the same.
A feed is connected to the column which has a sticky out bit that touches a metal ring on back of both wheels.
When you press the horn it completes the circuit making horn work.
The after market wheel is deeper at the centre so therefore has a cable from the centre to reach the horn which is a separate removable part.

I should have taken a photo but got excited about how good it looks ! ?

As always thank you for the help ?
