well its been getting progressively worse over the last month to the stage that I can hear it over my mates derv fiesta :(

tried to get a soundclip of it off my phone, I held the phone directly over the middle of the engine...

Tom/anyone in the know, any ideas what this may be?

I've heard different peoples opinions including:

Worn camshaft/followers
Worn tappets
Stuck tappets
Lack of lube to top end

The car goes to powerfiat on saturday for a belt change, maybe it might quieten down afterwards...I hope so, as I cant afford to fix it :(

I hate owning a 1.2 that sounds like a clapped out derv :(

Please help!

Dan

Worn camshaft/followers is the same as worn tappets, which is commonly caused by lack of lube to top end, lol

sounds a bit like 2 plastic rulers hit each other repeatedly to me, which is not unlike the sound of a failing tensioner.

when you say belt change, i presume you mean a cam belt, AND tensioner?

I'm hoping (and I mean praying) that its something to do with the cambelt/tensioner etc. its 5 1/2 years old and done 44000 miles now so defo in need of one, hense why its getting changed on saturday by rog at powerfiat.

Looking at eper, you only have one tensioner. And the one is for the cambelt, a one that is just pull up and tighten sort.

Find some pipe and put it on your ear, and try to locate the source of the sound.
And does the sound pick up with rpm or goes ?

dan i cant hear it no speakers here but if its a whining whistle noise and goes away when its warm apparently (dont hold me to this) its a fan belt bearing :S

Smee
