Up to about 5 mins ago, i believed my clutch was dying, but now i'm not as sure. In neutral, holding the revs at 2000 or above, when warm, my engine makes a squeeky long noise that holds, like something is slipping, and under idling, the engine makes a slight knocking noise. Are the 2 related, and is it the noise the clutch dying, even though its not in use when i hear the noise? I can give more info if needed, just want to know whether its gonna be a new clutch, or something less trivial? Any help gratefully appreciated.

it could be the fan belt needs adjusting if it sounds like something squeking and slipping. im not 100% on this but i had that prob and i needed mi9e tightening

I agree with fixitagaintomorrow, i had that same high pitched squeak after my alternator was changed. Cheapskate garage replaced the alternator but used the old belt. It squeaked for a couple of days an then stopped... then it started again an the battery light came on the dash. Pulled over to find the alternator belt snapped!!

Only 899cc, but scares my missus 1000 12v corsa

Right, firstly, the knocking noise is all the time, except higher revs. seems to be coming from the centre of the engine bay. Dunno if that helps. Its an 1108cc Sporting, 1997, last oil change was a while back, needs another. The squeeling noise is fairly quiet when holding revs at 2000rpm, but noticable. When driving along can become very loud, people notice it and stare when i go by [V]

Car has done 66404 miles, and now on its 3rd clutch. (to my knowledge)

Knocking could be shims needing adjusting on the cam, or at worst a worn big end if it hasn't been looked after. Have a good look around the engine bay to see if something hasn't come loose and is knocking on the bodywork. The injector ticks quite loudly on our cars, could it be this?

Squealy noise, could be the alternator or cam belt tensioner pulley, I'd get this looked at.

Pete.

Maybe i should drive up to you with a wad of cash and let you fix it for me :D Money is tight atm, but when my finances are sorted i might stick it in a garage and tell 'em to do whats needed. No doubt a garage from hell, resulting in a new engine....

Had a long drive this morning, and the squeeling only starts when the engine is warm. Also, it gets worse as it hots up (engine). If you change gear, if say the car was squeeling in 2nd, changing early to 3rd stops the noise completly for a fews secs. It sounds like a clutch related issue, but i don't think it is. Incidentally, the noice can change pitch as you accelerate (the more you put your foot down the worse it sounds)
