I wonder what would happen if a Bravo 155HGT and a Punto GT Turbo were to race?

Any opinions?

it would depend...

straight quarter mile race, or a track race, same specs all round etc

it would be good though :)

Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

The Punto is a quicker accelerating car, it's lightness sees to that. The 155 HGT would beat it on top end.
0-60 Punto
1/4 Mile Punto maybe
top end Bravo

Any mild tweakage of the Punto would put it way out in front.
I used to have an old Mk1 Uno turbo which had been tweaked by it's previous owner, estimated 150bhp, the boost needle used to go off the gauge if you turned the wastegate dial all the way open, scary little car. That would have pi55ed all over a HGT no probs.

i got a mate who had a punto gt. when he first bought it and it was standard it could just beat my 147 by a fraction away from lights. but he modified it to 180bhp and from then on i never stood a chance

Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

Punto GT Turbo will rip a HGT to pieces and leave it looking very silly indeed. Top end is different, however the Punto will have covered the race distance quite easily before the HGT wheezes itself up to race pace.

Interestingly enough, the Uno Turbo was lightening and it too can be chipped to provide insane amounts of power from such a flimsy machine.

Even more interesting, my Suzuki RG 500 Gamma (square four, two stroke, 500cc, to the uninitiated) puts down 118bhp at it's back wheel and will leave the 750's crying in a whisp of blue two-stroke exhaust fumes.

Anyway, who cares?

Re: Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

But the 5 pot bravo sounds so sweet the driver will probobly have the window down. And that's not very good for aerodynamics. lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

Both would be left by a tuned JTD ;) lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

lol, nige never misses a free plug ;)

i would think the hgt is more drivalble, i would think the gt can be a bit of a handful, it's a small engine with a big turbo so i can imagine there would be quite a kick that could catch you out if your not careful!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

My Gamma wouldn't.

Your carcinogenic diesel would be left by a tuned GT Turbo.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

lol.

I've drove a GT Turbo, and to be honest they are pretty nippy, but not as quick as some people say they are. OK this one was completely standard, but even still.... I think it should of been a lot quicker for a turbocharged engine.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

Maybe the one you drove was a dud?

I've only driven one before, which was completey mod free and it was as fast as fcuk. I've only driven two HGT's before, too. A 147 and my (now gone) 155 - I thought they were about the same so maybe my 155 was a bit past it?

Anyway - that's my answer and I'm sticking to it!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

Guys I cant see why you keep hailing the Punto GT so much. It is in the same league as the HGT or maybe just a tad faster, but there are no major differences that will make the HGT look silly. Of course, we are talking about standard cars here.

Regarding the Fiat Uno Turbo, I believe that none of you have come across a standard one. I've gone down the quarter mile against one with my 1.6 and left him look like he had an ordinary 1.2 Uno.
I did see him again after a couple of weeks and I immediately noticed that he was out for revenge judging from his new turbo and exhaust note. As a matter of fact, my almost standard Bravo had a hard time to keep up with him.

Maybe so Rog. That's why I never bought it :)

There were a few things that were shall we say... not quite right about it. Like it didn't have a central exit exhuast, but definately did have a Turbocharged, what looked like GT engine. Come to think about it, it could of possibly been an Uno engine? :)

Well, it had no logbook either so I walked away.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Whats Quicker?

I have driven several Uno's and one of them was a Turbo. If you think a standar 1.6 Bravo/a will keep up with an Uno Turbo, you are VERY MUCH mistaken. If it was a normally aspirated Uno, then maybe.

I personally think the Punto Turbo was a very underated car and I very much regret not buying one.
