I've added a poll and started the voting by voting for the 126.
As nice as 500's are a lot of good 126's are being broke just for the engines so for 500's. I reckon in a few years time the 126 will be rarer than the 500 ever will be. I've always loved 126's and I'll have one soon enough. Preferably air cooled.

No doubt I would go for the 500.....just look at the wonderful design......just love that car

Many a good 126 is dying to donate mechanical parts to a 500. This is not good.
I like the 500 as much as the 126 (I like all all small Fiats) but if pushed would say 126.
I am biased as I have a 126, which I have taken the week off work to get it ready for the paintshop & fit new hubs, shockers, leaf spring mounts and drive shaft gaiters.
Granted the 126 is a 500 in a 1970's body, but it's still better.......
You also get as many looks in a 126, as you would in a 500. They're both cool but this is because they are brothers. Non identical twins even..........

500 by a nose - because there were Pukka Abarth ones, and I am building one!
I have owned several 126 Bis and when they weren't rattling themselves to pieces they were great fun. I acually bid on an aircooled 126 on eBay the other day. Lake Em says you have to get 1 of each! And a 127, Panda, Cinq, Sei...

i just think these are ten times nicer than some of the newer fiats. am sorry but the shape was so much better. then and the style well they made heads turn.

126, easily better. Its faster, rides better, handles beter, later ones steer better and there is more room in it. Plus, its rarer in the UK than a 500 and people dont paint 126s pink and baby blue like they do with 500s!!!!
Personally this is the way I see it, 500 is curvy and cool, 126 is boxy and doesn't have huge improvements over the 500. So you get the bad shape and most of the bad that comes with a 500.

Engineering-wise the 126 is the better car, but it's just not as cool as the 500. I'd take a 500 with a meaty motorbike engine conversion and completely standard bodywork... perhaps the ultimate sleeper!

Agreed Steve, it shouldnt be allowed. Paul, have you ever even ridden in either car let alone owned one?! The 126 is a massive improvement especially in its post 1985 guise. It has a 650cc engine as opposed to 497cc, rack and pinion steering as opposed to worm and ball rubbish, bigger wheels which improve the ride, far more interior space, an all syncro gearbox as opposed to a crash box, better seating, better heating, better roadholding, better soundproofing, I could go on. The looks are a purely personal opinion but your statement is wrong!!! The 126 is the better car and IMO looks better too.

One looks (IMO) cool being the shape it is, the other looks about as nicely shaped as a sierra - it doesn't have sufficient improvements (IMO) to make it worth getting over the 500's style.
Drive a 500 and people would smile and think you're cool, drive a 126 and they'll think you're poor

Not true. It's generally accepted that the 126 is now a classic and as such is owned largely by enthusiasts.
