What cars did your parents drive when you were younger?

We didnt generally have a lot of cars, but the ones I remember

Ours was blue, but the guy next door had one thats a ringer for the picture.

Ours was a bit like this, but ours at 10 years old was rustier than a car of that age probably should be. Sills, arches, panels - everything! Unsurprisingly it didn't pass many MOT's and was soon scrapped!

Next car was owned at the time I had my first car, so wasn't really when I was a kid at all. But hey.

Not a stock/google pic - thats Dads old Brava. 1.4 12v engine which, with time and the chance to sit for a month or two, sadly seized. Now rusting in peace in the great breakers in the sky. Twas a good car when she went though!

When I was a nipper my old man had a Mk3 Ford Cortina, complete with vinyl roof!

Then he got a B Reg Ford Sierra 1.6 with square lights

Then he got a newer Sierra 1.8 with the more rounded lights. He also bought a "spare" Sierra for parts, was an ex-taxi that he was going to recondition. He stripped out the engine which then sat in the shed for a few years before we scrapped it. It was great fun him driving an escort and me steering a sierra with no engine and no electrics to persley. Rigid tow rope FTW!

To do the towing he bought a Mk7? Ford Escort 1.8 16v

This is still sitting at his work and has done for about 3 years.... He was doing the breaks and broke something and decided he couldn't be bothered fixing it... so now cycles everywhere instead lol.

The first one I remember is a red F reg BX, he ended up having 3 sitting outside the door at one point, he had the red one, then bought a white one for parts, fixed the white one, red one broke, then he bought the black 1.9 (pretty sure it was the) GTI.

Then he had an old primera, that his gf bought him from an auctoin, every time it rained the passenger footwell flooded :) cant remember what the problem was that made him get rid of it.

He then went onto buy a passat to use as a run around but ended up keeping it for years.

Finally he decided getting a new car was a good idea and he still has this one :)

My Dad's had, lets say, an eclectic mix of cars. None of the pics I have of any of them are digitised, so these are hotlinks by the way. Right, first one I remember was a brown Toyota Corolla Estate, much like this one, only with tiger skin seat covers and a constant oil leak...

...then there was a marvellously rusty Peugeot 104 in metallic blue. The floor started to disappear by the end...

...then the proper school nightmares happened. Imagine if you will you're parent getting one of these with vinyl roof...

...then a 5dr one of these, brand new...

...then unbelievably he bought another Lada Riva, but with 200cc less than the previous one.

Then, finally when that conked out, he got...

...which was the first car I ever drove, passed my license in and was going to get, till I killed it due to driving like a 17 year old. Who'd just stolen it. After it died, he got this...

...1.6 non-injection in silver, which I then wrote off due to trying to push start myself and kind of crashing into a few cars  But then after a few rental cars, he got this new, which he is still running into the ground after 7 years. Honestly, it just won't die...

What cars WASNT around when i was a nipper would be an easier question LOL

First car i remember was a Mk1 escort, closely followed by a Mk2.
then it was Mk1 Astra
Opel Kadette
Mk2 Cav
Mk2 Cav. that was till i was about 12

in between that was a multitude of cars that i cant remember, but as my dad was a mechanic, im sure you can imagine lol

My dad had 2 vehicles, quite a feat when you consider he couldn't drive!

they were a b-reg ford transit he got for £50, only to be totally disapointed when an 8 year old me went to see it, only to point out it was a cut and shut and it had a monumental gearbox oil leak. (yes i was a car geek at a young age)

second was slightly better, a g reg volkswagen passat estate, had it for about a year, sold it to a taxi driver, it was stolen and crashed into a roundabout, then scrapped so i heard.

Nobody else in my immediate family drives

I'm in pretty much the same position as stu and. Don't feel the website would handle the amount of cars my parents had. Seriously. sad thing is the old boy had only passed his test in 1990, only 30 years after he started driving!
