What to do ??

I dont know what to do here Guys and gals ..

some of you will know , and sopme of you wont know ...but atm in time in back to being unempolyed AGAIN.. well My first job was in a Family run garage ,when i did jobs there is was **** like sweeping the floor . washing the cars , and crap like that , wich in my eyes a lv 2 - half way thought there final year shuld not of been doing , so that put me off doing mechanics ,,, ie just been doing some work in a food processing plant , makeing food and Packing it up for M and S , , but now the christmass staff is sent packing ( no pun intended), Ive seen theres a few main dealers eg ford and Lloyd ( own fiat jag mini honda and some more) are now looking for tecnitions (sp) or mechanincs ,,

should i A just go and apply for a mechics job and see what its like working for a main dealer
B Carry on trying to find a job what i cant find ?
C Suggestions ?

go for the job, hope you get it then keep looking for something else whilst earning there. Hopefully with a better employer you'll enjoy your trade better

Don't give up! Go for it if you want it,but due to your age you start at the bottom of the ladder so expect **** jobs like sweeping up etc you have to prove yourself imo if you can get qualification at end of your course all the better. I struggled to get a job btw what about truck dealers volvo at carlisle for instance?

Yep.. as Richard says, try for the job in the main dealers. Best of luck.

Only problem I can see with a main dealer, is they normally require Mechaincs/ Technicans to be time served.
I only know this, as that's what's stopping me getting a job in a garage.

But give it a go, see what turns up

thing is you can only go for it and see where it gets you, and at the end of the day you need to be putting in for jobs anyway.......

That is true about putting in for jobs , but I've told job center about not applying for mechanic jobs , thing what stopping me is if I get it will it be the same crappy jobs I get , and will I be the 'new boy ' what will get crappy jobs , BUT its a job ill start bringing money back home

you'll always be the new boy till someone newer comes along, av had 7yrs of it lol You'll likely start on the crappy jobs, but once you’re in and show enthusiasm, wiliness to work and learn then you soon move onto better jobs. If you get an interview, raise the issue of being lvl2 and nearly finished your apprenticeship, ask if they'll assist you with completing your studies aswell as their own in-house and manufacturer training. That's how I got my job, being inquisitive and asking for them to provide the right technical training to do it, now I’ve a HNC and BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering to complement my NC & HNC Electrical Engineering.

I dread to think how long your CV is Rich, with all the different qualifications.

On mine I have my 5 GCSE's, NVQ L1 in Animal Care & 3 City & Guilds in Motor vehicle studies, 1 with a Distinction :smug2:

Got to keep your cv condensed to the interesting facts, about 2 pages max. I'm trying to write my cv at the moment as I've lost the last one I done in 2005. Many of the qualifications I had have expired, as they were electrical based I had no need to renew them. I'm currently doing my Site Management Safety Training Scheme or SMSTS course which has a renewal period of 5yrs.

I'd say go for it mate, dealerships may not be your ideal but if you can get your foot in the door I'd give it a go. Wouldn't mind going for an apprenticeship or something myself but I'm too old. Apparently. Plus it'd be nice if dealerships bothered getting back to me after I'd sent a few dozen enquiries/CVs and the like for all the jobs their advertising - if you get a reply from them, you're doing something right basically :laugh:

Technically Rich is correct and most cvs should be kept to a minimum of 2 pages or else you run the risk of ending up in the bin however academic cv's are the exception to this rule. They are complete PITA's as you have to list every publication and communication ever made and can run to 5 or 6 pages long easily. Luckily online databases are becoming more common and it won't be long before everything is electronic meaning we'll just be able to post a link instead

Plus once you have a degree you leave off GCSEs or Highers from your cv as it's taken as read you have them.
