is it just me or do most new cars look almost exactly the same?! these big headlights are starting to get me annoyed, it makes all cars look like
i want my car to look like
i've hardly seen a new car i like in the last few years. you have the choice between a bubble or a stretched bubble or a squashed bubble, where are all the edges at?! i want aggression, i want my car to frown, it should make people tremble with fear when they look in their rear view mirror. i dont want a car that says "i love the environment and everyone on gods earth". lets face it, new cars look friendly, happy, harmless and totally gay. i dont wear leopard skin lycra so i dont want one.
one of the few new cars that doesnt make me mad is the alfa 159, those headlights are actually on the front of the car, not on the bonnet, plus they look aggressive. the 159 even has straight edges. wow!
admit it, this car looks angry, if you dont move into the slow lane it will push you into the central reservation, and then wee on you. it has italian flair, the main reason i put up with fiat's crappy reliability.
my bravo has all sorts of faults, i still cant stop the sunroof leak, and it drinks petrol like there's no tommorw. do you think i'd put up with it if it didnt look cool? no way. i'd rather have a vauxhall, they cost less to own and are more reliable. but style is a very powerful selling point, especially for shallow people like me. without a "fiat style" i think sales will get worse, and lets face it, the new punto doesnt have a unique style, its just another new car.
the mk2 punto had style, it had sexy headlights, it had straight lines, it looked aggressive and most of all it didnt look like all the other cars in its class. that gives it a unique selling point which makes up for the fiat "niggling faults". take that selling point away and you have a serious loss of competitiveness. who's going to buy the new punto if they can have a new corsa? mostly the fiat faithful, and that isnt a lot of people. if you buy with your head and not your heart you would get a corsa over the punto, its bound to be the better car. i hate it, but its true.
every cloud has its silver lining, with the GP i think it will be rock bottom prices in less than a year, once competition from the other new cars causes sales to stuggle they'll drop the price a lot, just like they did with the bravo/a once the focus & astra pist all over it. if you want a GP, wait a few months, fiat dealers will be desperate to get rid of them.
my choice would be a mk2.5 punto sporting, the 1.4 16v engine is a winner, plus it has the 6 speed box, and you can get a new one for a bargain price, and it looks better than a GP inside and out IMO. even better get a 1 year old one with low miles, it should have most of the new car faults fixed already so you can actually drive it.
