Technical What should I be checking when looking at a Multipla Diesel for sale?

I recently lost my 02 Multipla JTD with 92,000 miles on the clock due to a bit of a bump on the dual carriage way.

Found a nice 54 plate for sale same spec within budget but has 180,000 on the clock. One previous owner who travelled from North East to West Mids weekly for work. MOT checks out. FSH (3 per year!)

Looks good, but mileage is concerning. Would it be a better choice over the couple of Y plates I have found in the same price range but with 140,000 on the clock?

Is there a lifespan on these vehicles - either years or miles? Any help appeciated :)

Well I can always negotiate on price. MOT due in September - The history shows passes since 2007 with the only advisory notice issued in 2007 on worn front discs. Would the database show a fail and retest?

Hi, Ive just noticed the one in the ebay watching section of the forum. It may be worth a look and its another forum member too. The car is a 54reg JTD with 118,000 miles on the clock he wants £2500 or best offer so it may be worth a offer. Just thought I would mention it incase you hadnt already noticed it. Good luck with your car hunting.:)

Find out if the Cam Belt kit has ever been changed, with that kind of mileage it should have been done at least twice by now, if it hasn't i would stay away or at least negosiate on the price then get the cam belt kit done ASAP. Apart from that you should be ok.

Good Luck

Glad that you're pleased with your purchase!

The aerial stems are readily avalable on ebay. Fitting them sounds like a bit of a pain, reading the 'how to's' on here.

I've just had all three handbrake cables replaced for my MOT. It feels miles better now. Cost inc. parts, labour and VAT was about £100 from a non-franchised specialist.

BTW - 4 months into Multipla ownership and all is still fun. The broken aerial I replaced with an eBay replacement mast. I drilled out the broken off corroded stub that was left exposed from my roof, tapped the hole and then just screwed in the replacement rather than dismantling all the headlining - it seems to have done the job..

The brake cable replacement carried out by the garage I bought the car from seems to have only been a temporary fix for (or in fact had nothing to do with) the sticking handbrake, as it is now worse than ever (but out of warranty..) so I'll be stumping up best part of £400 for new rear callipers to be fitted (by Fiat). My guess is that the seller (a trader) managed to free off the callipers enough to fob me off.. Buyer beware at Swansea Garage in Whittle-le-Woods..
