Technical What other steering racks will fit?

Recently have noticed a knocking noise coming from my steering rack. It appears to be something internal has worn such as a bush or seal. Just wanted to know what other Fiats or Alfas use the same rack? Have found a coupe 20VT one, will that fit? I have a 155 2.0 20v Marea.

yeah they are both the same mate good luck changing it tho. can be a little tricky

the coupe 20vT rack is actually slightly different, it has a 2.2 lock-to-lock rather than the Marea's 2.8 (IIRC).

the 20vt rack is also a bit longer to suite the hubs.

if i had the option to go back to the marea rack i would jump at the chance, the Coupe one is awful, the turning circle is something crazy like 14m, the marea turning circle is around 11m

Ah bugger Been offered a set of Coupe wheels with newish tyres and the rack for £100! Also found a re-con Marea rack for £50 though so might just go for that.

Yeah looks like a bit of a job to do. However, my uncle has some software with repair times that garages use to quote on jobs and it says 2 hours?? Looks like it will be longer than that to me?

Cheers for confirming that though. Also Bulldog, how did you cut away the middle section from your front grille? I've got all the tools to do it at work but I can see it turning out to be a complete mess

well, Venters started the grill and then i gave it to the bodyshop to tidy up and paint.

I'm sure he will be around shortly to advise

as for changing the rack, it might be possible to do in 2 hours but its quite a bit of work.
