Is the tappety noise a result of harm to the engine? Is it a problem?

It is usually not a problem harm wise, just annoying.

If it is real bad then you might want to have them looked at.

If it's not too loud I wouldn't worry, I know we did with mine at first and checked the top oil feed and all of the cam positions etc. and it was fine, characteristic of small engines really, especially Fiats.

Excellent, thanks guys.

It's not really bad at all, but does seem to go away once warm, which is why I assumed the things about the engine oil for cold starts.

I know the top oil feed to the cam is fine, as it was all nice and wet when I changed the rocker cover gasket.

i use my uno every day and every day it`s a hard day for her:) i also forgot when i last drained the oil since i only top it up freuqently due to leaks.it still runs smootly even if reved to death.the only minor prob i`ve got not related is when temp pass 95 degress it starts to pink and in my opinion the fault is in d ign. module and it is greatly affected from fuel aswell.i try to fit a sort of heat sink.they r very reliable engines probably the best fiat ever made

What I would recommend is to take off your sump wash it out, take off your oil pickup from your oil pump & clean it as well, then your car should be sorted, because most of the sludge and **** lies at the bottom of the sump. Flushing in my opinion is not a good idea. (y)

hi

can u help me with the best oil for my fiat uno 1.7 D model 1999, done 20 k kms is getting a bit slugginsh though. the climate here is moderate (india) between 28 degs centigrade to 38 degs centigrade.

the aircon cooling is also slwoing down. i also need help on the manual to essentially understand how to change oil and do the necessary regular service myself.

i believe i have the same one as sanpor .. but its a 2001 model .. 1.7 Deisel with aircon :) temps here in our region are crazy hot .. so aircon is a must ..

anyways .. i am using 10w-40w mineral oil.. and after reading alot on this thread i think was wrong choice as the temp here goes to 45C in summers and even though its feb now the temp is about 25C .. any suggestions on which synthetic or semi synthetic viscosity oil to use?

Use 10w-40 semi synth API/SAE SJ, SL, SM. Under no circumstances should you use 20w-50 as 20w-50 is for very old classic cars circa 1950's. As for name's of oils thats neither here nor there. I use comma oils just read the back of the bottle and check the API/SAE matches your engine's need's.

1, Engine 10w-40 Semi Synth API/SAE SJ, SL, SM,(y)
2, Gearbox 75w-90 Semi Synth,(y)
3, Automatic gearbox Dextron 2,(y)
4, power steering Dextron 2,(y)
