Hi i got a 1.2 16v brava 99 plate wot grade oil shall i use is 10/40 w semi sync ok as im doing an oil change at the weekend, then clean the engine so i can see my levels

Yes its a 10/40W semi synthetic. Fiat uses Selenia ans as i heard its the best for this car. You can also use another brand if you want but i will insist to use Selenia Gold 10/40 Semi-Synthetic!

i dont use selenia. fiat only recommeneded it because selenia was made by fiat lubrificanti, a company owned by fiat. fiat sold this comapony a few years ago, and since then it has changed hands 3 times. selenia is in no way better than other brands, it never was, but understandably fiat would recommend using their own oil and would only allow the use of their own oil in dealerships. many fiat dealerships now use different oils because they cant get selenia very cheap from fiat any more. any good quality 10w40 semi synthetic oil will be fine. i use castrol magnatec.

When i had my 1.8 i put in Castrol Magnatec and the engine went that bit noiser. After 3K miles i decided to get rid and put in Selenia and the engine quietened down. I've used Selenia ever since and never had any problems with either of my Bravo's. I would personally say that Selenia is very expensive but a better oil compared to the brands freely available in shops, however im not saying using any other brand will damage your car, it wont.

I use Selenia for two reasons,

1. I can get it at a discount rate aswell as 10% off that.
2. It makes my engine sound much better on tick over.

I will agree with JoskeJTD. I had used in the past other brands and engine was noiser, then returned to Selenia and all fine again. Well i prefer them than any else brand.

Its like Forte engine treatment, you can't buy that at halfords. However its alot better than its rivals STP, RedEX. Same with Selenia.

My Fiat garage still use Selenia oil by the drums, no messing with 5L cans. :)
