General what mpg from 1800

hi guys,
getting mrs a new car,
so do i keep her marea 1800, or stick with my daewoo, (deawoo needs £250 to pass MOT)
not bothered about street creed,its mpg for me
so whats the mpg on a marea 1800 most driving will be motorway 70mph
its 50 miles round trip to work (40 miles is motorway)

My '97 Marea 2.0 20V managed an average 36 / 37 mpg on a trip to Luxembourg last year, that was 90% motorway driving. Generally I get between 31 and 33 mpg combined cycle. You should do better in a 1.8, specially if you're doing a lot of motorway work.

Try keeping your speed down a bit and imagining there as an egg between your foot and the throttle pedal, 44 MPG in a heavily loaded Marea Weekend is not a bad result. I have got this sort of result regularly on long runs, like London/York Edinburgh London. Local mixed usage would typicall give 35 to 37 mpg. You will get quite this economy without thinking about your driving, but it's nice to save your wallet and the planet at the same time. The 1.8 is also lively enough when you want to go and a refined engine.

my 1.8 bravo gets about 30mpg and it weighs less than a marea, then again i do have a heavy foot.
