Under the bonnet, near the scuttle, there is this black component (1st photo).
t has a part number on a label, but a search on google leads nowhere.
It has an input from the vacuum pump.
And it seems to operate a cable (photo 2) - and I can't work out where this goes (so i can't fit it).

Part of the cold start injection advance system. See a bit more here.

Thanks for the info.
I think i can see from a photo I took when disassembling that the cable goes in front of the engine and behind the fuel pump - is that correct?

If so, i cannot see where it needs to be connected. There is an extension to the accelerator lever (see photo below) on the fuel pump which i guess it could be connected to, but i would be expecting to see somewhere to hold the plastic shroud end, otherwise the cable has nothing to act against.

It is too many years since I last owned a vehicle with a manual cold start advance device for me to recall the details. In a previous post you reported attaching a single wire to the injection pump. I assume that the wire supplies a heater for the wax capsule which retards the injection timing as it melts the wax. The Bowden cable should attach in the same area. This article from Motor Roam may help.
